Change a business entity or update a company name
When your company's business registration information changes, you may need to change the enterprise entity or update the name for your Alibaba Cloud account's enterprise real-name registration. This topic describes the scenarios and procedures to help you complete the required update.
Use cases
When your company undergoes an acquisition, restructuring, or deregistration, you may need to transfer the ownership of your Alibaba Cloud account from one legal entity to another. If your business registration information changes, you must determine if the enterprise real-name registration for your Alibaba Cloud account requires an update. The key criterion is the company's Unified Social Credit Code.
-
If the Unified Social Credit Code of the account entity changes, you need to change the enterprise entity.
-
If the Unified Social Credit Code of the account entity does not change, you do not need to change the enterprise entity.
-
If the company changes its enterprise name, you only need to update the enterprise name. This process is simpler.
-
If the company updates its legal representative information, the system automatically syncs the information. You do not need to take any action. If the information has not yet been refreshed, wait for the data to update in the National Enterprise Credit Information Publicity System. Alibaba Cloud then automatically syncs the latest legal representative information.
-
-
If your enterprise has been deregistered, we recommend that you manage the assets in your Alibaba Cloud account as soon as possible.
-
If you can still sign in to your Alibaba Cloud account, please change the enterprise entity promptly. Note that the required supporting documents for a deregistered enterprise are slightly different from those for an active enterprise.
-
If you can sign in to your Alibaba Cloud account but no longer need it, you can clear or transfer the resources in the account and then cancel your Alibaba Cloud account.
-
If you cannot sign in to your Alibaba Cloud account, see What do I do if I cannot complete identity verification? You can submit supporting documents to restore account access and complete the entity change at the same time.
-
Change enterprise entity
If you need to change the enterprise currently used for real-name registration to another enterprise, which involves a change in the Unified Social Credit Code, follow these steps.
Impact
|
Scope |
Description |
|
Account ownership |
After a successful change, ownership of the account and all its cloud resources, orders, and assets automatically transfers to the new company. |
|
Credit limit |
If the current entity has a credit limit, the new entity must also be qualified to inherit it. The change will fail if there are any in-progress credit approval requests. |
|
Invoice information |
Previously issued invoices are not affected. After the change, you must manually update the invoice title. For more information, see Issue an invoice. |
|
Domain and ICP filing |
Domain name and ICP filing information is not automatically updated and remains registered to the original company. You must manually perform a Domain Name Holder Information Modification (Transfer) and Change ICP Filing. The real-name registration entity for the domain name must match the ICP filing entity to avoid potential website access issues. |
Prerequisites
To ensure a smooth process, check the following before you start:
-
Change interval: At least 30 days must have passed since the last successful entity change.
-
Operating environment: This process is not supported on the Alibaba Cloud app. You must use a computer.
-
Review timeline:
-
Legal representative facial recognition or Alipay verification typically completes in a few minutes to 1 hour.
-
Verification through a corporate bank account or corporate Alipay account typically takes 1 to 3 business days.
-
The process is usually completed within one business day. Applications submitted before 18:00 are processed the same day, even on non-business days, while those submitted after 18:00 are processed the next morning.
-
After approval, you must start the new entity verification within 9 calendar days. Otherwise, the system automatically terminates the process.
-
-
Credit limit: Confirm with your business manager that there are no pending credit limit adjustments for the current account. You cannot initiate a change if there are.
-
Verification method for the original entity: The first stage of the process requires verifying the original entity's identity. If the legal representative is unavailable for facial recognition, you can use one of the following alternatives:
-
Verification through corporate bank account: Use the original enterprise's corporate bank account to complete the verification. This method does not require facial recognition of the legal representative.
-
Verification through corporate Alipay account: Use the original enterprise's corporate Alipay account to complete the verification. This method does not require facial recognition of the legal representative.
ImportantStage one verifies the original entity's information, such as by uploading the original company's business license or using its corporate bank account, not the new entity's information. Do not submit materials for the new entity, as this will result in an "information mismatch" error.
NoteIf you cannot switch the verification method on the current page, first click Cancel Change to end the current process. Then, initiate the change again to select a different method on the verification page.
-
-
Reseller partnership: If the account is linked to a reseller, changing the real-name registration may terminate the partnership, and it cannot be re-established. Before proceeding, you must contact your reseller to confirm the impact. If you need to maintain the reseller relationship or issue invoices with specific titles, contact your business manager to assess whether "multi-invoice title rights" or other solutions are available.
-
Prepare enterprise verification materials: Choose a verification method based on the new enterprise's situation and prepare the necessary materials. For more information, see Enterprise Real-name Registration.
-
Business continuity: If the account has pay-as-you-go products such as ECS, OSS, SLB, and CDN, maintain a sufficient account balance to avoid service interruptions.
-
Multi-account scenarios: If your enterprise account is in any of the following situations, you must resolve them before proceeding:
-
Resource Directory: In the payer account's Costs console, remove the relevant financial relationship. Note: Removing the financial relationship does not affect the account relationship in Resource Directory.
-
financial trusteeship: You must remove the trusteeship relationship before you can change the entity.
-
Financial Management: You must remove the financial relationship before you can change the entity.
-
enterprise affiliation: If the account has completed enterprise affiliation, you must first leave the affiliation. If you are a super administrator, you must first transfer your super administrator permissions before leaving.
-
Procedure
The process has two main stages: verifying the original entity's identity and verifying the new entity's information. Before starting, see Enterprise Real-name Registration to choose a suitable method and prepare accordingly.
-
Sign in to the Real-name Registration page in the Alibaba Cloud Account Center and click Change Enterprise Entity.
-
On the Prefill Change Information page, enter the new enterprise's information. You can search by the exact Unified Social Credit Code or by a partial enterprise name.
-
On the Change Enterprise Entity page, first select your Enterprise Situation, then read and agree to the change agreement, and click Initiate Change.
-
Follow the steps below based on your enterprise's situation.
Enterprise is active
If your enterprise is still active and not deregistered, you need to choose a verification method for the original entity after initiating the change.
-
On the Change Enterprise Entity [Stage 1] page, select a verification method for the original entity. This example uses Legal Representative Facial Recognition Verification.
-
After selecting Legal Representative Facial Recognition Verification, the system automatically detects your enterprise information. Click Continue, and then use the Alipay app to scan the QR code on the page to complete the legal representative's identity verification. Wait for approval. The review can take up to three business days. You will receive an SMS notification with the latest status to your account's Security Mobile Number.
Enterprise is deregistered
If your enterprise has been officially deregistered, you need to submit relevant documents to verify the original entity's identity after initiating the change.
-
On the Change Enterprise Entity [Stage 1] page, upload photos of the original enterprise's deregistration certificate and its asset disposal certificate, and then click Next.
The subsequent steps of Stage 1 are: Step 2 Applicant facial recognition (legal representative not required), Step 3 Review.
-
The current applicant must scan the QR code on the page using the Alibaba Cloud or Mobile Taobao app to complete facial recognition, then wait for approval.
The applicant's facial recognition does not require the legal representative. No login is needed when scanning. You can share the QR code with an operator to scan on your behalf. After a successful scan, click Refresh Status promptly. The system will then automatically proceed to review and the process cannot be revoked.
NoteThe QR code is valid for 1 hour. Please complete the action promptly.
-
-
After the review is approved, click Start Now to begin the new enterprise verification. You must start this process within 9 calendar days after the original entity's verification is approved. Otherwise, the system automatically terminates the process.
-
Read and agree to the relevant agreements, and then click Start Stage 2.
-
Choose a suitable verification method based on the new enterprise's situation and continue the process. For more information, see Enterprise Real-name Registration.
Next steps
-
After the account entity is changed, domain name and ICP filing information is not automatically updated and remains registered to the original company. You must manually transfer the domain and change the ICP filing. The domain's real-name registration entity must match the ICP filing entity to avoid potential website access issues.
Recommended order of operations:
-
First, complete the account entity change.
-
Next, modify the domain name holder information (transfer).
-
Finally, change the ICP filing.
NoteNormal use of the domain name is not affected during the account entity change process.
-
-
By default, the invoice title matches the entity used for account real-name registration. After the entity is changed, previously issued invoices are not affected. New invoices can be issued in the new entity's name, but you must manually update the invoice title first. For more information, see Manage Invoice Titles.
Update enterprise name
If your registered enterprise has updated its name with the Administration for Market Regulation but its Unified Social Credit Code has not changed, you can follow these steps to update your enterprise name. This process is not supported on the Alibaba Cloud app.
Impact
Updating the enterprise name does not affect your account assets, orders, or previously issued invoices.
Procedure
-
Sign in to the Real-name Registration page in the Alibaba Cloud Account Center and click Update Enterprise Name.
-
On the Update Enterprise Name page, enter the new enterprise name and upload a photo of the updated business license copy.
-
Click Confirm Modification. If the system verification is successful, the enterprise name update is complete.
Troubleshooting:
-
If the enterprise name recognized by OCR is incorrect, you can manually correct the name before submitting.
-
If you receive an error or the system cannot find the enterprise information, the backend business data may not have been synchronized yet. Contact customer service to manually synchronize the enterprise information and then try again.
-
When uploading the business license, please use a photo of the original document and ensure the photo is clear. Scanned copies or electronic files are not supported.
Next steps
After the enterprise name is changed, domain name and ICP filing information is not automatically updated. You must manually perform a Domain Name Holder Information Modification (Transfer) and Change ICP Filing. The real-name registration entity for the domain name must match the ICP filing entity to avoid potential website access issues.
FAQ
Restrictions on entity change
-
You cannot initiate another real-name registration change within 30 days of a successful one.
-
Accounts that have enabled financial trusteeship, are part of a Resource Directory, or are managed in the Account Center involve multi-account relationships, and you must unlink them before you can initiate an entity change.
-
If you sign in to Alibaba Cloud using an account that has been verified through Taobao, 1688, or Alipay, you must go to the respective website to modify your real-name registration information.
-
An account with enterprise real-name registration cannot be changed to an individual real-name registration.
Business license requirements
The requirements for the business license are the same as for the standard enterprise real-name registration process. For examples, see Examples of common documents with Unified Social Credit Codes.
Original entity name change
-
If the original entity has a history of official name changes, you only need to upload a photo of the most recent business license copy.

Troubleshooting common errors
-
Cache issues: Clear your browser cache, use incognito mode, or try a different browser (Chrome or Firefox is recommended) and retry.
-
Data synchronization issues: If the error is due to unsynchronized business data, wait for the National Enterprise Credit Information Publicity System to update (which can take 10 to 15 business days), or contact customer service to request a manual synchronization.
-
QR code scanning issues: After scanning the code, make sure to tap Return to App on your mobile device. If it fails, you can cancel the current process and start over, or switch to the bank card verification method.
-
Other errors: If the issue persists, take a screenshot of the error message and contact support.
Troubleshooting page errors and blocks
When you initiate an enterprise entity change, the system may block the operation due to the account's status or its relationships. The following are common causes and their self-service solutions:
|
Cause |
Solution |
|
A successful entity change occurred within the last 30 days |
You must wait at least 30 days after a successful change before initiating another one. This restriction does not apply if you only "terminated" or "canceled" an incomplete process. |
|
A financial trusteeship relationship exists |
The account has financial trusteeship enabled. You must first go to the Costs console of the payment account to remove the trusteeship relationship before initiating the change. |
|
A Financial Management or Resource Directory association exists |
The account is part of a Resource Directory or Financial Management, which involves multi-account registration relationships. You must first go to the Costs console to remove the financial relationship before initiating the change. Removing the financial relationship does not affect the account relationships within the Resource Directory. |
|
The account has completed enterprise affiliation |
You must exit the enterprise affiliation first. If you are a super administrator, you need to transfer the super administrator permissions before exiting. |
|
A pending credit approval request exists |
The account has an in-progress credit limit adjustment. You must wait for the approval process to finish or contact your business manager to cancel it before initiating the change. |
|
The account is linked to Taobao/1688/Alipay |
For accounts that have completed real-name registration through these channels, you must go to the respective website to modify the information. It cannot be changed directly in Alibaba Cloud. |
|
Changing from enterprise to individual real-name registration |
An account that has completed enterprise real-name registration cannot be changed to an individual real-name registration. If you need individual registration, you must register a new account. |
If none of these reasons apply, we recommend clearing your browser cache and retrying with Chrome or Firefox. Alternatively, provide a screenshot of the error and contact customer service for investigation.
Change to an individual after deregistration
You can change the account's registration to the individual real-name registration of a former legal representative or shareholder only after the enterprise is officially deregistered. You need to submit a ticket with the following documents:
-
"Member Account Holder Change Application Form" (signed and fingerprinted by the handler and the new individual entity; signed and fingerprinted by shareholders of the former entity holding more than two-thirds of the shares).
-
Clear photos of the new entity holding both the front and back of their ID card.
-
"Asset Disposal Certificate".
-
Official deregistration certificate.
If the enterprise is deregistered and you cannot contact the legal representative or shareholders, a direct change is not supported. We recommend registering a new account and using the cross-account transfer feature to migrate resources.
30-day restriction rule
-
After successfully completing a real-name registration change, you must wait 30 days before initiating another one.
-
If you only "canceled" or "terminated" an in-progress change, the 30-day restriction is not triggered, and you can immediately start a new one.
-
If the system indicates that the 30-day period has not passed but it actually has, there may be a data delay. We recommend waiting 15 to 30 minutes and then retrying or refreshing the page.
Update name vs. change entity
|
Scenario |
Action |
|
The Unified Social Credit Code remains the same, but the company name changes (e.g., an official name change, or an individual business upgrading to a company). |
Select Update enterprise name |
|
The Unified Social Credit Code changes (e.g., changing from Company A to Company B, or from an enterprise to an individual business). |
Select Change enterprise entity |
If the original enterprise name changed but was not updated in Alibaba Cloud, you must first perform an Update enterprise name action to sync the latest name, and then perform a Change enterprise entity action.
Unreachable or uncooperative original entity
The account legally belongs to the original registered enterprise. Any change requires verifying the original entity's identity, for example, by providing its business license or using the legal representative's facial recognition. If the original entity is unreachable or uncooperative, you cannot directly change the real-name registration.
Recommended solution: Register a new account and complete its real-name registration. Then, migrate the resources (such as domains, ECS instances, and ICP filings) from the old account to the new one by using cross-account transfer features. If the old account is associated with a deregistered company and is inaccessible, you can try to restore access through the appeal process and then attempt the change.
View change history
Sign in to the Alibaba Cloud console, go to the Account Center > Real-name Registration page, and click Change Records to view your change history.
Public institutions and individual businesses
-
Public institutions: You must provide a legal person certificate for the public institution. If the legal representative is unavailable for facial recognition, you can choose the bank card verification method.
-
Individual businesses: These are treated as enterprises. An individual business can be changed to another enterprise or individual business. The procedure is the same as the enterprise entity change.
-
Electronic business license: If your local authority only issues electronic business licenses, you can provide a copy with an official seal for verification.
Retaining discounts
Whether existing discounts are retained after an entity change depends on a re-evaluation based on the new entity's business policies. We recommend contacting your business manager to confirm.
Unauthorized account verification
If you find that your account was verified without your consent and the original mobile number is no longer in use, you need to submit a ticket with supporting documents for review.
Target enterprise outstanding balance
As long as the target enterprise is active, you can change the account's real-name registration to that enterprise, even if it has an outstanding balance.
Linking to a reseller
After the entity change is complete, you must link the account with the reseller separately in the Account Center or on the partner page. You can also contact the reseller for assistance.
Geographic limitations
Yes. The enterprise entity change is available only for enterprises that have a Unified Social Credit Code, which are typically located in the Chinese mainland.
Security mobile number changes
-
Change limit: There is no limit to how many times you can change your security mobile number.
-
Conflict with real-name registration: You cannot initiate another entity change within 30 days of a successful one. However, changing the security mobile number is not an entity change and is therefore not subject to this 30-day restriction. If you encounter a system restriction, we recommend waiting and retrying or submitting an appeal.
If you encounter other issues, please contact customer service for assistance.
