Manage instances

Updated at:

An instance is a virtual machine resource for the Message Queue for Apache RocketMQ service. It stores information such as topics and Group IDs. To send and receive messages with Message Queue for Apache RocketMQ, you must first create a Message Queue for Apache RocketMQ instance. This topic describes how to create, delete, update, and view instance details in the Message Queue for Apache RocketMQ console.

Background information

Message Queue for Apache RocketMQ instances are available in Standard Edition and Enterprise Platinum Edition. Choose an instance edition based on your business requirements. For more information about the specification and billing differences between the two editions, see Instance Specifications and Billing Overview.

For Enterprise Platinum Edition instances, you can specify how resources are handled after an instance expires or its subscription is canceled. The Post-expiration Action setting controls this behavior. For details, see Lifecycle management of Enterprise Platinum Edition instances.

Create an instance

  1. Log on to the ApsaraMQ for RocketMQ console. In the left-side navigation pane, click Instances.

  2. In the top navigation bar, select a region, such as China (Hangzhou).

  3. On the Instances page, click Create Instance in the upper-left corner.

  4. In the Create Message Queue for Apache RocketMQ Instance panel, set Instance Version to 4.0 Series and then select the required instance type.

    • Create a Standard Edition instance: Set Instance Type to Standard Edition Instance. Enter a Name and Description for the instance, and then click OK in the lower-left corner.

    • Create an Enterprise Platinum Edition instance:

      1. Set Instance Type to Enterprise Platinum Edition, and then click OK in the lower-left corner.

      2. On the buy page, complete the basic configuration for the instance, select the Terms of Service checkbox, click Calculating, and complete the payment.

View instance details

  1. Go to the Instances page.

  2. In the instance list, find the instance that you want to view and click its name to open the Instance Details page.

Delete an instance

Warning
  • Deleted instances cannot be restored. If the instance is bound to a Message Queue for MQTT service, that service will become unavailable. Proceed with caution.

  • Before you can delete a Standard Edition instance, you must delete all topics and Group IDs from the instance.

Delete a Standard Edition instance

Standard Edition instances use the pay-as-you-go billing method. If you no longer need an instance, you can delete it in the console.

  1. Go to the Instances page.

  2. In the instance list, find the instance that you want to delete. In the Actions column, click More and then select Delete from the drop-down menu.

  3. In the confirmation dialog box that appears, click OK.

On the Instances page, you can no longer see the deleted instance.

Unsubscribe from an Enterprise Platinum Edition instance

Enterprise Platinum Edition instances use the subscription billing method and cannot be deleted directly. If you no longer need the instance, you can unsubscribe from it.

For instructions, see Unsubscribe from an Enterprise Platinum Edition instance.

Update an instance

  1. Go to the Instances page.

  2. In the instance list, find the instance that you want to update and click its name.

  3. On the Instance Details page, in the Basic Information section, click Edit next to Instance Name or Instance Description. Enter the new name or description in the text box, and click OK.
