Backup and Disaster Recovery Center (BDRC) provides the Resource Categorization feature to group resources by tags and score each category's data protection status independently. Resource Categorization dynamically associates and disassociates resources as tags change, helping you identify risks and protect critical data. Use Resource Categorization in Backup and Disaster Recovery Center to prioritize protection for specific resource subsets.

Overview

  • BDRC provides three default resource categories: Critical, Important, and General. You can also create custom categories.

  • You can categorize a single resource type (ECS, OSS, NAS, or Tablestore) or all types at once.

  • Each resource category supports up to 30 associated tags. The system matches all resources that satisfy every specified tag condition.

    • Each tag rule consists of a tag key, a tag value, and a matching rule. Supported matching rules: Equals, Does Not Equal, and Any Value.

    • A resource matches only when it meets all conditions. You can select tags from the drop-down list or enter them manually.

  • If a resource belongs to multiple categories, it is scored in each but counted only once in the final statistics.

  • When you update associated tags, BDRC refreshes data protection scores on the Overview page daily. Click Check all resources to update scores immediately.

Supported scope and limitations

  • Supported resource types: ECS, OSS, NAS, Tablestore, or all types combined.

  • Default categories (Critical, Important, General) plus custom categories cannot exceed 10 in total.

  • Default categories cannot be renamed, have their resource type changed, or be deleted.

  • You can add up to 30 associated tags to each resource category.

Create a resource category

  1. Log on to the BDRC console.

  2. In the left-side navigation pane, choose Resource center > Resource categorization, and then click Create resource category.

    Note

If the default resource categories (Critical, Important, and General) meet your needs, you can click Edit in the Actions column to associate the required resources with them by using tags.

  3. In the Create resource category dialog box, configure Resource category name, Resource type, and Associated tags, and then click OK.

    Parameter

    Description

    Resource category name

The category name. Maximum length: 128 characters.

    Resource type

Select a resource type: ECS, OSS, NAS, Tablestore, or all types.

    Associated tags

    • The supported matching rules for a tag value are Equals, Does Not Equal, and Any Value.

    • A resource is matched only if it meets all conditions.

You can select tags from a drop-down list or enter them manually.

  4. The new category appears in the list with the number of matched resources.

The list also displays the Resource type and Associated tags for each category. In the Actions column, you can Edit or Delete a resource category.

  5. On the Overview page, filter by Resource category to view scores. Selecting multiple categories shows combined statistics for all matched resources. The Data protection score distribution bar chart and TOP 10 Risky Resources list update dynamically.

Click the Risky Resources or All Resources count to view resources in that category.

The resource list page displays each instance's Data protection score and Risk item. The Resource category filter retains your selection. At the bottom, you can Enable risk detection, Disable risk detection, or Update data protection score.

  6. In the Resource center, filter by resource category to view data protection scores for individual resources such as ECS instances or OSS buckets.

After you select a category from the Resource category filter, the table displays each resource's Data protection score and Risk item.
