Alert notification
After integrating Alibaba Cloud Captcha, set up monitoring rules and subscribe to alert notifications to detect anomalies in your Captcha traffic. When thresholds are breached, Captcha sends alerts via phone call, SMS, DingTalk, email, and more.
The setup has two parts:
Configure monitoring rules in the Captcha console.
Create alert contacts and subscribe to CloudMonitor notifications.
Prerequisites
Before you begin, ensure that you have:
Integrated Alibaba Cloud Captcha 2.0 and created at least one scenario
Access to the Captcha 2.0 console
Access to the CloudMonitor console
Configure monitoring rules
Monitoring rules define which metrics to watch, the time window, and the threshold that triggers an alert. Captcha tracks four metrics:
| Metric | What it measures |
|---|---|
| Initialization volume | Total number of Captcha initialization requests received |
| Verification volume | Total number of verification attempts submitted by users |
| Interception volume | Total number of requests blocked by Captcha |
| Interception rate | Ratio of blocked requests to total requests, expressed as a percentage |
For data compliance, call data from the Chinese Mainland and outside the Chinese Mainland are counted separately. Alert notification data cannot be merged across regions.
Add a monitoring rule
You can add a maximum of 15 monitoring rules.
Log on to the Captcha 2.0 console.
In the left-side navigation pane, click Alert Notifications.
In the Configure Monitoring Rules section, click Add, configure the following fields, and then click Save.
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Region | Select Chinese Mainland or Outside Chinese Mainland. |
| Scenario Name | Select the scenario to monitor. |
| Time Window | Select Last 24 Hours or Last 1 Hour. |
| Rule | Select a rule type. See Rule types below. |
| Threshold | Enter a positive integer from 1 to 99,999. |
| Status | Enable the toggle to activate the rule. |
Rule types
Choose a rule based on what you want to detect:
24-hour absolute volume rules — alert when a metric exceeds a fixed threshold over the past 24 hours:
Last 24 hours initialization/verification/interception volume greater than: triggers when the volume exceeds the threshold.
Last 24 hours interception rate greater than: triggers when the interception volume exceeds 1,000 and the interception rate exceeds the threshold.
1-hour growth rate rules — alert when a metric spikes compared to the previous hour:
Last 1 hour initialization/verification/interception volume growth rate greater than: triggers when the volume in the last hour exceeds 100 and the growth rate compared to the previous hour exceeds the threshold.
Last 1 hour interception rate growth rate greater than: triggers when the interception rate increase compared to the previous hour exceeds the threshold.
1-hour decrease rate rules — alert when a metric drops compared to the previous hour:
Last 1 hour initialization/verification volume decrease rate greater than: triggers when the volume in the last hour exceeds 100 and the decrease rate compared to the previous hour exceeds the threshold.
High-frequency alerts are subject to a 10-minute suppression by default — duplicate alerts within a 10-minute window are not sent. To extend this suppression window, configure a suppression time greater than 10 minutes when setting up your CloudMonitor subscription policy.
Manage monitoring rules
To disable a rule, turn off the toggle
in the Status column.
To delete a rule, click
in the Actions column.
Configure alert notifications
To receive alerts, create alert contacts and contact groups in CloudMonitor, then subscribe to Captcha monitoring notifications.
Create alert contacts and contact groups
If you have already configured alert contacts and contact groups in CloudMonitor, skip to Subscribe to Captcha alerts.
In the Alert Notification Configuration area, click Create Contact and Contact Group to open the CloudMonitor console.
Create an alert contact:
On the Alert Contacts tab, click Create Alert Contact.
In the Set Alert Contact panel, configure the following parameters:
Parameter Description Name Contact name. Must start with a letter and be 2–40 characters. Accepts letters, digits, periods (.), and underscores (_). Region for Alert Notification Service Region where contact data (name, email address) is stored and processed. Phone Mobile phone number. Only numbers with country code 86 support SMS alerts. Email ID Email address of the contact. Description Optional description. DingTalk | Lark | WeCom | Slack webhook URL Webhook URL for the contact. Must start with http://orhttps://. Click Test to verify connectivity before saving.Language of alert notifications Defaults to Automatic, which matches the language of your Alibaba Cloud account. Click OK.
Activate the contact's email address. The email address starts in Pending Activation state. The contact must click the activation link in the email within 24 hours. After activation, the email address appears in the contact list and alerts can be delivered.
(Optional) Activate the email address and mobile phone number of the alert contact.
If you set an email address and a mobile phone number for an alert contact, their status is Pending Activation by default. The alert contact must click the activation link in the email and text message within 24 hours. Otherwise, the contact cannot receive alert notifications. After activation, the mobile phone number and email address of the alert contact appear in the alert contact list.
Create an alert contact group:
Log on to the CloudMonitor console.
In the left-side navigation pane, choose Alerts > Alert Contacts.
Click the Alert Contact Group tab, then click Create Alert Contact Group.
Enter a name for the group, add contacts, and click Confirm.
(Optional) Add multiple contacts to a group in bulk:
Log on to the CloudMonitor console.
In the left-side navigation pane, choose Alerts > Alert Contacts.
On the Alert Contacts tab, select the contacts to add.
Click Add to Contact Group, select the target group, and click OK.
Subscribe to Captcha alerts
Subscribe to Captcha system events in CloudMonitor to start receiving alert notifications. Alerts are delivered via the channels you configure (phone call, SMS, DingTalk, email, and more).
CloudMonitor alert notifications may incur charges. For details, see Billing overview.
We recommend using DingTalk and text messages for alert notifications. DingTalk can be used for free, and alert text messages provide a free usage quota, which helps you save costs effectively. For more information about billing for other CloudMonitor alert methods, see Billing overview.
In the Subscribe to Monitoring Notifications area, click Subscribe Now to open the CloudMonitor console.
On the Create Subscription Policy page, configure the following:
Basic information
Field Value Name A descriptive name, for example, Information verification abnormal alert.Description Optional. Alert subscription
Field Value Subscription type Select System Events. Products Select Captcha. Event type Select Captcha > Abnormal. Event name Leave blank. Event level Leave blank. Application grouping Leave blank. Event content Leave blank. Event resources Leave blank. Combined noise reduction
Field Value Merge content Leave blank. Noise reduction To extend the default 10-minute suppression window, enter a value greater than 10 minutes. Otherwise, leave blank to use the default. Notification
Field Value Notification configuration Select the alert contacts or contact groups to notify. Custom notification method Customize delivery channels if needed, or keep the defaults. Push channel Optional.
What to do when you receive an alert
After completing the setup, alerts are sent to your contacts when Captcha metrics exceed the configured thresholds. When you receive an alert:
Check the metric details in the Data Report section of the Captcha console to understand the scope of the anomaly.
Review your scenario configuration if interception rates spike unexpectedly.
Contact Alibaba Cloud support if the anomaly cannot be explained by traffic patterns.
