Upgrade to CDT billing to consolidate Internet traffic usage and billing across your cloud services.

Usage notes

  • After you upgrade to CDT billing, CDT centrally bills and invoices all existing and new pay-by-traffic instances. Their original cloud services continue to bill for instances that use the pay-by-bandwidth billing method.

You can go to the Expenses and Costs console and view your CDT bills on the Billing > Bill Details page.

  • After you upgrade to CDT billing, you receive a free quota of 220 GB/month of Internet traffic. This quota provides 20 GB/month for the Chinese mainland and 200 GB/month for regions outside the Chinese mainland.

Procedure

  1. Log on to the CDT console and view the details in the Upgrade to CDT Billing for Cloud Services section.

Not upgraded: The cloud service does not use CDT billing by default. You can manually upgrade to access CDT offers.

Upgraded by default: The cloud service uses CDT billing by default. CDT centrally bills and invoices Internet traffic for pay-by-traffic instances.

Effective June 1, 2025, CDT provides a free monthly quota of 220 GB of Internet traffic (20 GB for the Chinese mainland, 200 GB for regions outside the Chinese mainland). This quota offsets Internet traffic costs for ECS, EIP, and Classic Load Balancer (CLB). Besides Not upgraded and Upgraded by default, the status can be Upgraded, indicating a completed manual upgrade. For services not yet upgraded (such as ECS and shared bandwidth), click Upgrade in the Actions column. For all services, click Create Instance to create a pay-by-traffic instance.

  2. Manually upgrade a cloud service to CDT billing. The following example uses ECS.

In the Actions column, click Upgrade. In the dialog box that appears, click OK.

The upgrade takes effect immediately for all pay-by-traffic ECS instances.

  3. View the Monthly Internet Data Transfer section for this month's total traffic and usage ranking by region.

Select a region (example: China (Shenzhen)) and Line Type (example: BGP (Multi-ISP)) to view total traffic and usage breakdown by cloud service.

  4. Optional: Activate the CDT Cross-border Service.

On the Cross-border Service page, click Apply for Cross-border Leased Line, submit a cross-border leased line request, and wait for approval (Cross-border FAQ). Then, click Activate Now and follow the on-screen instructions.

Once activated, CDT bills and invoices cross-border Internet traffic for all new and existing pay-by-traffic instances.

Bill changes after the CDT upgrade

After you upgrade to CDT billing, CDT centrally bills and invoices all existing and new pay-by-traffic instances. Their original cloud services continue to bill for instances that use the pay-by-bandwidth billing method.

Log on to the Billing Management console. In the left-side navigation pane, choose Billing > Bill Details.

Set Product Name to Cloud Data Transfer and Billing Item to Cloud Data Transfer - Internet Traffic. Set the Total Amount Payable is 0 filter to Yes, and then click Search. If the search returns no results, this confirms that CDT now bills for pay-by-traffic instances, and the charges no longer appear on the original cloud service bills.

CDT bill field descriptions are available in Query bills.
