A Storage Capacity Unit (SCU) is a subscription-based resource plan for storage capacity. You can use an SCU to offset the storage costs of various cloud products. SCUs are more flexible and cost-effective than storage plans that are dedicated to a single product.
Purchase
To purchase an SCU, see Purchase a Storage Capacity Unit (SCU).
You can purchase multiple SCUs for the same region and effective period. These SCUs can be combined to offset your storage costs.
Offset rules
The following table describes the rules for using SCUs in the Chinese mainland to offset Cloud Backup storage costs.
For information about the offset rules for other regions and cloud products, see Pricing.
Storage class | Offset factor | Description |
Backup vault storage capacity | 0.295 | Every 0.295 GB of SCU capacity offsets 1 GB of backup vault storage capacity for Cloud Backup. Important Backup vault storage capacity does not include the backup storage capacity for Database Backup scenarios. Database Backup is a separate billable item. For more information, see Billing methods and billable items. |
Offset order
Cloud Backup storage costs are offset in the following order: Storage Plan > SCU > Pay-as-you-go
Offset example
For example, assume that a user in the China (Hangzhou) region has a 200 GB storage plan for backup vaults and a 50 GB SCU. If the user's total backup storage usage is 300 GB in June, the storage costs are offset as follows:
Storage Class | Storage plan offset | SCU offset |
Backup vault storage capacity | The 200 GB storage plan offsets 200 GB of storage costs. | 29.5 GB of the SCU offsets the remaining 100 GB of storage costs. After the 200 GB storage plan is applied, 100 GB of storage remains. The required SCU capacity is calculated as: 100 GB × 0.295 = 29.5 GB. |
