To prevent data loss or corruption, use Cloud Backup to regularly back up the data tables in your Tablestore instances. Cloud Backup lets you configure flexible backup policies, store backups, and restore data tables at any time. This topic describes how to use Cloud Backup to back up the data tables in a Tablestore instance.
Prerequisites
-
Cloud Backup is activated. Activating Cloud Backup is free of charge. When you use the Tablestore backup feature of Cloud Backup, you are charged for the Cloud Backup storage capacity that you use. The following fees apply:
-
Storage capacity fee
Billed by the storage capacity that backup data consumes in the backup vault. View vault details on the Overview page of the Cloud Backup console. Cloud Backup supports two storage types: locally redundant storage (LRS) and zone-redundant storage (ZRS). For more information, see Pricing.
-
Restoration fee
Restoring data to a Tablestore instance incurs a data write throughput fee charged by Tablestore. For more information, see Tablestore billing.
-
Usage notes
-
When you use this feature for the first time, Cloud Backup automatically creates a service-linked role named AliyunServiceRoleForHbrOtsBackup to access Tablestore resources in your account. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the authorization. For more information, see Service-linked role for Cloud Backup.
-
Cloud Backup automatically detects all Tablestore instances in the selected region under your account. No client installation is required.
Create a backup plan
After you create a backup plan, the first backup job is a full backup. Subsequent backup jobs are incremental backups by default.
Follow these steps to create a Tablestore backup plan.
Log on to the Cloud Backup console.
-
In the navigation pane on the left, choose .
In the top navigation bar, select a region.
-
In the Actions column of the target Tablestore instance, click Back Up.
-
In the Create Backup Plan panel, configure the following parameters and click OK.
-
Configure the backup content and click Next.
Parameter
Description
Plan Name
Enter a name for the backup plan.
Database Instance
Select the data tables to back up.
-
Configure the backup schedule and click Next.
Backup type
Parameter
Description
Full Backup
Full Backup
Turn on the Full Backup switch to perform full backups.
Backup Frequency
Required only when Full Backup is enabled. Specifies the backup cycle. You can schedule periodic backups on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis.
Run At
Required only when Full Backup is enabled. Specify the start time for the backup, accurate to the second.
Time Interval
This parameter is required only when Backup Frequency is set to By Day (Periodic). Specify the number of days between backups.
Backup Week
This parameter is required only when Backup Frequency is set to By Week (Periodic). Specify the day of the week to run the backup.
Backup Month
This parameter is required only when Backup Frequency is set to By Month (Periodic). Specify the months in which to run the backup.
Backup Day
This parameter is required only when Backup Frequency is set to By Month (Periodic). Specify the day of the month on which to run the backup.
Incremental Backup
Incremental Backup
Turn on the Incremental Backup switch to perform an incremental backup. Compared with a full backup, an incremental backup captures only new or changed data, reducing backup data size and time.
Backup Frequency
This parameter is required only if you turn on the Incremental Backup switch. Specifies the backup cycle. You can schedule backups by minute, hour, or day.
Run At
This parameter is required only when the Incremental Backup switch is turned on and Backup Frequency is set to By Day. Specify the time to start the backup. The time is accurate to the second.
Time Interval
This parameter is required only if you turn on the Incremental Backup switch. Specify an interval of 30 minutes, a specific number of hours, or a specific number of days.

Configure backup options.
Parameter
Description
Backup Vault
Configure the backup vault where backups are stored.
-
Create Backup Vault: Optionally, specify a name for the new backup vault. If you leave this field empty, the system assigns a name automatically.
-
Select Backup Vault: Select an existing backup vault from the drop-down list.
To maximize the redundancy of your backup data, the system automatically selects a backup vault type based on regional support. By default, a ZRS backup vault is created in regions that support zone-redundancy, and an LRS backup vault is created in other regions.
Vault Name
Specify the name of the backup vault.
Vault Resource Group
This parameter is required only when the Backup Vault parameter is set to Create Backup Vault. This parameter specifies the resource group to which the backup vault belongs.
A resource group is a mechanism that you can use to manage resources in your Alibaba Cloud account in groups. Resource groups simplify resource and permission management for a single account. For more information, see Create a resource group.
Vault Encryption Method
This parameter is required only when Backup Vault is set to Create Backup Vault. It specifies the encryption method for the backup vault.
-
Fully managed by Cloud Backup (Default): Cloud Backup manages the encryption key.
-
KMS: Uses a custom key from Key Management Service (KMS) for encryption. You must specify the KMS KeyId.
Important-
After you use KMS to encrypt data, you cannot change the KMS key.
-
If the KMS key is disabled or deleted, the backup data in the backup vault cannot be restored.
-
To use a KMS key to encrypt a backup vault, you must create a KMS key ID in advance. For more information, see Create a key.
Retention Period
Specifies how long to retain backups. The period can be set in days, weeks, months, or years. The default is two years.
Enable Bandwidth Throttling
Bandwidth throttling helps you limit backup traffic during peak business hours to avoid affecting your production workloads. To use bandwidth throttling, select a Time Range (Hour), enter the Max Bandwidth (MB/s), and then click Add.
-
After the backup plan is created, Cloud Backup runs jobs according to the schedule. You can view the plan on the Backup Plan tab.
-
Successful backups
At the scheduled time, Cloud Backup starts the backup job. A backup is considered successful when its job Status is Completed.
The job list displays backup job records only from the last six months. To retrieve older data, export an audit report.
Backup vault replication
To protect business continuity from regional disasters or account management risks, Cloud Backup lets you configure cross-region backup or cross-account vault replication for backup vaults whose Storage Vault Type is General Backup. Data in the source vault is automatically synchronized to the replication target vault. You can also restore data from the target vault on demand.
For general-purpose backup vaults that store Tablestore data, you can configure backup vault replication to enable cross-region or cross-account disaster recovery. Tablestore backup also supports enterprise-grade features such as cross-account backup, KMS-based encryption, immutable backup, and automatic backup of resources based on tags.
Troubleshooting
If the Status of a backup plan or backup job is abnormal, refer to the following suggestions.
-
The Status of a backup job is Failed.
Follow the on-screen instructions to check and correct your configuration.
-
The Instance Status of a Tablestore instance is Released.
This indicates that the Tablestore instance was deleted.
-
If the deletion was intentional, you can ignore the job status. To prevent further storage charges, go to Storage Vaults, find the corresponding backup vault, and delete it.
-
If the instance was deleted by mistake and you want to restore it, create a new Tablestore instance in the same region to serve as the restore destination. Then, you can restore the Tablestore instance. For more information, see Restore a Tablestore data table.
In the Create Restore Task dialog box, in the Target Instance step, set Restore to Database (only instances in Running status can be selected) and Restore to New Table Name (required, up to 255 characters).
-
-
The Plan Status of a backup plan is Disabled.
This indicates that the backup plan is paused. While paused, Cloud Backup no longer protects the Tablestore instance. We recommend that you enable the backup plan as soon as possible.
