By default, the ECS file backup feature sends an SMS or email alert to your Alibaba Cloud account when a backup job fails or a backup client disconnects from Cloud Backup. To send alert notifications to a RAM user, create a custom alert rule and specify an alert contact or alert contact group.
Cloud Backup notifies the specified alert contact or alert contact group when a backup job fails or a backup client disconnects.
Step 1: Set alert contacts
An alert contact is the recipient of backup alerts. Follow these steps to set one:
Log on to the Cloud Backup console.
In the navigation pane on the left, click Notification Contacts.
On the Alert Contacts tab, click Create Contact.
In the Create Contact panel, enter the Contact Name and other required information.
Select a Notification Methods, complete the required configuration, and then click OK.
Email
If you select Email as the contact method, enter the Email and click Send. Log on to your email account to retrieve the verification code, and then return to the Cloud Backup console to enter the Verification Code.
Text Message
If you select Mobile as the contact method, enter the Mobile and click Send. The system sends a text message with a verification code to your phone. Enter the Verification Code that you receive.
NoteOn the Alert Contact page, you can view information for all alert contacts.
Click Edit to modify a contact's email address and mobile phone number.
Contacts that are assigned to an alert rule or added to a contact group cannot be deleted.
Step 2: (Optional) Set a contact group
If you want multiple people to receive alert notifications, you can create a contact group to simplify management. After you add alert contacts to the group, a notification is sent to all members of the group when an alert is triggered.
Log on to the Cloud Backup console.
In the left navigation pane, select Notification Contacts.
On the Groups tab, click Create Group.
In the Create Group panel, enter a Group Name.
Select the contacts to add to the group and click the rightwards arrow button. The selected contacts will then appear in the Selected Contacts box.
Click OK.
NoteThe Alert Contact Group page displays all contact groups and the number of members in each group.
To edit a contact group, click Edit.
Contact groups that are assigned to an alert rule cannot be deleted.
Step 3: Customize the alert rule
By default, Cloud Backup sends alerts by SMS or email to your Alibaba Cloud account. If you customize an alert rule, it overrides the default rule.
You can customize the alert rule in one of the following two ways:
Backup vault
An alert rule for a backup vault applies to all ECS file backup clients in the vault. If you do not configure a separate alert rule for a specific backup client, the backup client uses the backup vault's rule by default. The following steps describe how to configure an alert rule for a backup vault:
Log on to the Cloud Backup console.
In the left-side navigation pane, choose Storage Vaults.
Find the backup vault for which you want to configure an alert rule and in the Actions column, choose .
In the Alert Notification Method panel, select an Alert Notification Method and click OK.

Notify Alibaba Cloud Account
Sends alerts for all ECS file backup clients in the backup vault by SMS or email to the Alibaba Cloud account.
Custom
Select one or more alert contacts or alert contact groups. Alerts for all ECS file backup clients in the backup vault are sent to the selected contacts or groups.
Backup client
You can set a specific alert rule for the backup client on an individual ECS instance. This rule overrides the alert rule of the backup vault. Follow these steps:
On the ECS File Backup page, select the region where the target ECS instance is located, and then click View Details in the Actions column for the instance.
NoteIf you are using the previous version of the console, which displays Try New Version in the upper-right corner, perform the operations in the Actions column for the target backup client on the ECS Instances tab.
In the Client Information section, click Alert Settings to the right of Client Operation.
In the Alert Notification Method panel, select an alert notification method and click OK.
