Configure alerts for SAP HANA backup
By default, Cloud Backup sends an alert notification by SMS or email to the Alibaba Cloud account if an SAP HANA backup job fails or a backup client disconnects from the Cloud Backup service. To send alert notifications to a RAM user, you can customize the alert notification method and specify an alert contact or an alert contact group. This topic describes how to configure custom alerts.
An alert contact or an alert contact group is notified if a backup job fails or a backup client disconnects from the Cloud Backup service.
Step 1: Set alert contacts
An alert contact is the recipient of backup alerts. Follow these steps to set one:
Log on to the Cloud Backup console.
In the navigation pane on the left, click Notification Contacts.
On the Alert Contacts tab, click Create Contact.
In the Create Contact panel, enter the Contact Name and other required information.
Select a Notification Methods, complete the required configuration, and then click OK.
Email
If you select Email as the contact method, enter the Email and click Send. Log on to your email account to retrieve the verification code, and then return to the Cloud Backup console to enter the Verification Code.
Text Message
If you select Mobile as the contact method, enter the Mobile and click Send. The system sends a text message with a verification code to your phone. Enter the Verification Code that you receive.
NoteOn the Alert Contact page, you can view information for all alert contacts.
Click Edit to modify a contact's email address and mobile phone number.
Contacts that are assigned to an alert rule or added to a contact group cannot be deleted.
Step 2: (Optional) Set a contact group
If you want multiple people to receive alert notifications, you can create a contact group to simplify management. After you add alert contacts to the group, a notification is sent to all members of the group when an alert is triggered.
Log on to the Cloud Backup console.
In the left navigation pane, select Notification Contacts.
On the Groups tab, click Create Group.
In the Create Group panel, enter a Group Name.
Select the contacts to add to the group and click the rightwards arrow button. The selected contacts will then appear in the Selected Contacts box.
Click OK.
NoteThe Alert Contact Group page displays all contact groups and the number of members in each group.
To edit a contact group, click Edit.
Contact groups that are assigned to an alert rule cannot be deleted.
Step 3: Customize the backup alert rule
By default, the Cloud Backup service sends alert SMS messages or emails to your Alibaba Cloud account. If you configure a custom alert rule, SAP HANA backups use the custom alert notification method instead of the default method.
Customize the backup alert rule in one of two ways:
Backup vault
An alert rule for a backup vault applies to all SAP HANA backup clients within that vault. If you do not configure a specific rule for an SAP HANA instance, it inherits the alert settings from the backup vault. To configure an alert rule for a backup vault, follow these steps:
Log on to the Cloud Backup console.
In the left-side navigation pane, choose Storage Vaults.
Find the backup vault that you want to configure. In the Actions column, choose More > Alert Settings.
In the Alert Notification Method panel, select an Alert Notification Method based on your requirements. Click OK.

No alert notifications are sent for any SAP HANA backup client in the backup vault.
Notify Alibaba Cloud Account
Alert notifications for all SAP HANA backup clients in the backup vault are sent by SMS or email to the Alibaba Cloud account.
Custom
Select one or more alert contacts or alert contact groups. After the configuration is complete, backup alerts for all SAP HANA backup clients in the vault are sent to the selected recipients.
SAP HANA instance
You can configure an alert rule for a specific SAP HANA instance. An instance-level alert rule overrides the alert rule set for the backup vault. To configure an alert rule for an SAP HANA instance, follow these steps:
Log on to the Cloud Backup console.
In the left-side navigation pane, choose .
In the top-left corner of the page, select a region.
On the SAP HANA Instance tab, find the instance that you want to configure. In the Actions column, choose More > Alert Settings.
In the Alert Notification Method panel, select an Alert Notification Method. Click OK.

Select one or more alert contacts or alert contact groups. After the configuration is complete, alerts for this SAP HANA instance are sent to the selected recipients.
