By default, the alert feature of Database Backup sends alert notifications by text message or email to the Alibaba Cloud account when a backup fails or a client disconnects from the Cloud Backup service. To send alert notifications to a RAM user, you can customize alert rules to specify a contact or contact group. This topic describes how to customize these alert rules.
When a backup job fails or a client disconnects from the Cloud Backup service, the specified alert contact or contact group receives a notification.
Step 1: Set alert contacts
An alert contact is the recipient of backup alerts. Follow these steps to set one:
Log on to the Cloud Backup console.
In the navigation pane on the left, click Notification Contacts.
On the Alert Contacts tab, click Create Contact.
In the Create Contact panel, enter the Contact Name and other required information.
Select a Notification Methods, complete the required configuration, and then click OK.
Email
If you select Email as the contact method, enter the Email and click Send. Log on to your email account to retrieve the verification code, and then return to the Cloud Backup console to enter the Verification Code.
Text Message
If you select Mobile as the contact method, enter the Mobile and click Send. The system sends a text message with a verification code to your phone. Enter the Verification Code that you receive.
NoteOn the Alert Contact page, you can view information for all alert contacts.
Click Edit to modify a contact's email address and mobile phone number.
Contacts that are assigned to an alert rule or added to a contact group cannot be deleted.
Step 2: (Optional) Set a contact group
If you want multiple people to receive alert notifications, you can create a contact group to simplify management. After you add alert contacts to the group, a notification is sent to all members of the group when an alert is triggered.
Log on to the Cloud Backup console.
In the left navigation pane, select Notification Contacts.
On the Groups tab, click Create Group.
In the Create Group panel, enter a Group Name.
Select the contacts to add to the group and click the rightwards arrow button. The selected contacts will then appear in the Selected Contacts box.
Click OK.
NoteThe Alert Contact Group page displays all contact groups and the number of members in each group.
To edit a contact group, click Edit.
Contact groups that are assigned to an alert rule cannot be deleted.
Step 3: Customize backup alert rules
The Cloud Backup service sends alert notifications by text message or email to the Alibaba Cloud account by default. If you customize an alert rule, Database Backup sends notifications based on the custom rule instead of the default settings.
You can customize backup alert rules in the following two ways:
Set an alert rule for a backup vault
An alert rule for a backup vault applies to all database backup clients in the vault. If you do not set a separate alert rule for a database instance, the alert rule of the backup vault is used by default. Perform the following steps:
Log on to the Cloud Backup console.
In the navigation pane on the left, choose Vault Management.
Find the backup vault for which you want to set an alert rule. In the Actions column, choose .
In the Alert Notification Method panel, select an Alert Notification Method and click OK.

Notify Alibaba Cloud Account
Alert notifications for all database backup clients in this vault are sent to the Alibaba Cloud account by email or text message.
Custom
Select one or more contacts or groups. After the configuration is complete, backup alerts for all database backup clients in this vault are sent to the selected contacts or groups.
Set an alert rule for a database instance
You can set a separate alert rule for the backup client of a single database instance. An alert rule for a database instance has a higher priority than a backup vault-level alert rule. Perform the following steps:
Log on to the Cloud Backup console.
In the navigation pane on the left, choose .
In the top-left corner of the page, select a region. Then, click the tab of the database type for which you want to set an alert rule, such as MySQL, Oracle, or SQL Server.
Click the Backup Plans tab. Find the backup plan that you want to manage. In the Actions column, choose .
In the Alert Notification Method panel, select an Alert Notification Method and click OK.
