Create an ECS instance on a dedicated host in CloudBox

Updated at:

You can use resources in CloudBox to create a Dedicated Host (DDH) and deploy Elastic Compute Service (ECS) instances on the DDH. This method provides security and exclusive physical resources. It also lets you allocate virtual machine (VM) resources, customize instance types, and set overcommit ratios to improve resource efficiency and reduce costs. This topic describes how to create a DDH in CloudBox and then create an ECS instance on that DDH.

Billing description

When you use CloudBox resources to create a DDH and the ECS instances on it, you are not charged for instance types (compute resources) or disks (Elastic Block Storage resources). However, you are still charged for other ECS-related services. For example, if you use a paid image, you must pay the image fees. For more information, see Billing overview.

Prerequisites

  • The CloudBox is in the Running state and has idle host resources.

  • The network configuration for the CloudBox is complete. For more information, see Configure the network.

Procedure

Step 1: Create a DDH

  1. Log on to the ECS console.

  2. In the left-side navigation pane, choose Instances & Images > icon1 > Dedicated Hosts.

  3. In the upper-left corner of the page, select a region and resource group.

  4. Click Create DDH.

If this is the first time you are creating a dedicated host, click Create Now.

  5. On the Dedicated Hosts page, complete the creation process. Pay attention to the following parameter settings.

For more information about DDH parameter settings, see Create a Dedicated Host.

    Parameter

    Description

    Billing Method

    Select Pay-as-you-go.

    Note

In a CloudBox, you can only create Dedicated Hosts whose Billing Method is Pay-as-you-go.

    Region and Zone

Select the region and zone where the target CloudBox is located.

Return to the Dedicated Hosts page. The new DDH appears in the list. You can use the DDH when its status changes to Running. If the DDH does not immediately appear, wait a moment and then refresh the page.

Step 2: Create an ECS instance

After you create one or more DDHs in CloudBox, you can create ECS instances of the corresponding instance types on the DDHs.

  1. Navigate to the Dedicated Hosts page.

  2. Find the DDH on which you want to create ECS instances, and click Create Instance in the Actions column.

  3. On the Custom Launch page, create an ECS instance. Pay attention to the following parameter settings.

For more information about ECS instance parameter settings, see Create an ECS instance on a DDH.

    Parameter

    Description

    Dedicated Hosts

Select a DDH that you created in CloudBox.

    Billing Method

    Only Pay-as-you-go is supported.

    Images

You can select an image from the Public Image, Custom Images, Share Images, Marketplace Images, or Community Image tab. On the Custom Images tab, you can use a custom image from Object Storage Service (OSS) in CloudBox.

    Bandwidth and Security Group

CloudBox does not support directly assigning a public IP address to an ECS instance. You can create a CloudBox elastic IP address (EIP) and attach it to an ECS instance in CloudBox to enable public network access. For more information, see Configure public network access for an ECS instance in CloudBox.

After the instance is created, click Console to return to the ECS console. In the instance list for the selected region, you can view information about the new instance, such as its instance ID, public IP address, and private IP address.
