Decompressing a website archive file in the Web Hosting management console may fail if the file is corrupted, in an incorrect format, or if you are out of web space. This topic explains the possible causes and solutions.

Symptoms

When you try to decompress a file in the Web Hosting management console, an error message appears.

The error message is Failed to decompress the file! with the prompt Request processing failed. Please try again later. (Check the available space or try non-overwrite mode).

Possible causes

  • The archive file has one of the following issues:

    • The archive file is corrupted.

    • The archive file is in an unsupported format.

    • The archive file is password-protected.

    • The archive file contains filenames with Chinese characters.

  • The file was uploaded using an FTP client in a non-binary transfer mode.

  • Your web space is full.

Solution

Check if the archive file is complete and not corrupted.

Use an FTP client to download the archive file to your local computer and check its integrity.

If the archive file is corrupted, repair it and try to decompress it again.

Check the archive file format.

  • Web Hosting instances that run a Linux operating system support only .zip and .tar formats.

  • Web Hosting instances that run a Windows operating system support only .zip and .rar formats.

If the archive file is in an unsupported format, re-compress the files into a supported format for your host's operating system, and then try to decompress it again.

Check if the archive file is password-protected.

Check if the archive file is password-protected.

You cannot decompress password-protected archive files.

Check if filenames in the archive file contain Chinese characters.

Check the filenames for Chinese characters.

You cannot decompress archive files that contain filenames with Chinese characters.

(Optional) Check the FTP transfer mode

If you upload website files to your Web Hosting instance by using an FTP client, make sure the transfer mode is set to Binary. To do so, follow these steps:

  1. Use an FTP client, such as FileZilla, to connect to your Web Hosting instance.

For more information, see Manage website files with FileZilla.

  2. In the FileZilla toolbar, click Transfer > Transfer type.

  3. Set the transfer mode to Binary.

The menu path is Transfer > Transfer type > Binary.

Checking the available space for the website

View the web space information to confirm that the available web space is greater than the size of the file after decompression. The specific operations are as follows:

  1. Log on to the Web Hosting console.

  2. Find the target Web Hosting instance and click Manage in the Operation column.

  3. On the Site Information page, in the Website Information section, view the Web Space.

    Note

If you use a shared Web Hosting instance and the web space is full, you can purchase additional web space. For more information, see Increase the web space of a shared Web Hosting instance.
