Connecting to a Web Hosting instance with FileZilla can cause connection closed by server or cannot connect to server errors. This happens if the number of simultaneous connections from a single client IP exceeds three. This topic describes the cause of this issue and how to resolve it.

Symptoms

You receive connection closed by server or cannot connect to server error messages.

Possible cause

Web Hosting allows a maximum of three simultaneous connections from a single client IP. If the number of connections from your IP address exceeds three, these errors occur.

Solution

  1. Check for duplicate connections to the Web Hosting instance in FileZilla.

    • If duplicate connections exist, do the following:

      1. Close the duplicate connections in FileZilla and keep only one. In the connection tab bar at the bottom of FileZilla, click the × icon on the right side of each duplicate connection tab to close it.

      2. Try to connect to the Web Hosting instance again.

        • If the connection is successful, the issue is resolved.

        • If the connection fails, proceed to the next step.

    • If no duplicate connections exist, proceed to the next step.

  2. Restart the network adapter on your local computer.

  3. Try to connect to the Web Hosting instance again.

    • If the connection is successful, the issue is resolved.

    • If the connection fails, submit a ticket.
