You can connect to your Web Hosting instance by using Windows Explorer to manage your website files by uploading, downloading, and deleting them.

Background

Using a dedicated FTP client is more secure and convenient than using Windows Explorer. For more information, see Manage website files by using FileZilla.

Procedure

Important

This topic applies to Web Hosting instances that run Windows and Linux operating systems.

  1. Get the FTP logon information for your Web Hosting instance.
    1. Log on to the Web Hosting console.
    2. Find your Web Hosting instance and click Manage in the Actions column.
    3. In the navigation pane on the left, click Site Information.
    4. On the Site Information page, find the FTP logon information in the Account Information section.
The FTP logon information includes the FTP Logon User Name, FTP Logon Password, and FTP Logon Host.
Note If you forgot your FTP password, you can reset it. For more information, see Reset host management console and FTP passwords.

  2. On your local computer, open This PC.

  3. In the address bar, enter ftp://FTP logon host, and then press Enter.

    Important

    The : in ftp://FTP logon host must be a half-width colon (:).

  4. In the Log On As dialog box, enter your FTP logon username in the User name field and your FTP logon password in the Password field, and then click Log On.

  5. View all files in the root directory.

After you log on, you can upload, download, or delete your website files.

By default, the root directory contains three items: the HttpErrors folder, zhuye.html, and readme.txt.

FAQ

Symptom: When you use Windows Explorer to connect to a Web Hosting instance, the connection fails. An FTP Folder Error message appears, which includes the FTP response codes 200 Switching to ASCII mode and 227 Entering Passive Mode.

Possible cause: Windows Explorer may be blocked by a firewall or be behind a NAT gateway. This can cause the connection to fail because the Web Hosting instance cannot find the port used by Windows Explorer.

Solution:

  1. In the search box on your local computer, type Internet Options and press Enter.

  2. In the Internet Properties dialog box that appears, click the Advanced tab.

  3. In the Browsing section, clear the Use passive FTP (for firewall and DSL modem compatibility) check box, and then click OK.

  4. Try connecting to the Web Hosting instance by using Windows Explorer again.
