Merge resources

Updated at:

Cloud Migration Hub (CMH) may create duplicate resource entries when the same resource is identified by different attributes. You can merge these duplicates to maintain an accurate resource list.

Resource identifier

When you import resource information to CMH by using a survey template or an automatic collection tool, CMH assigns each resource an identifier, such as an IP address, a domain name, or an instance ID. Resource identifiers are used to associate resources with migration tasks.

Associate resources with migration tasks

When a migration task is created, CMH parses the migration source information and matches the resource identifier against the resource list. If a match is found, the resource and the migration task are associated. If no match is found, CMH automatically generates a new resource for the migration source.

Merge duplicate resources

For example, Resource R has two IP addresses: A (private) and B (public). If you record IP Address A during the resource survey, CMH uses IP Address A as the identifier of Resource R. However, if a migration task created in Server Migration Center (SMC) uses IP Address B as the migration source, CMH generates a separate Resource R' with IP Address B as its identifier. Because CMH cannot determine that Resources R and R' refer to the same resource, you must manually merge them.

Procedure

Log on to the CMH console. In the left-side navigation pane, choose Discovery > Resource list. On the Resource list page, select Resources R and R' and click Merge resources. CMH merges the attributes of the selected resources.
