This topic describes the scenarios, solutions, and business flow of Log Monitoring.
Scenarios
Logs are vital for enterprise operations and maintenance (O&M). Storing business logs locally makes it difficult to extract their full value. Enterprises increasingly need to store logs on a central server and process them into metrics to guide O&M and operations.
Log Monitoring provides real-time log data analysis, visualization on monitoring charts, and an alert service. You can activate Simple Log Service and use it to collect local logs to meet your enterprise monitoring, O&M, and operational needs. You can also combine this service with other Cloud Monitor features to create a complete monitoring loop.
Solutions
This solution combines Cloud Monitor and Simple Log Service. It is lightweight, comprehensive, and easy to use, as shown in the following figure.
- Simple and easy to use compared to traditional Elasticsearch, Logstash, and Kibana (ELK) solutions. It provides a zero-code setup for a complete monitoring solution.
- A complete package that provides real-time log data analysis, visualization on monitoring charts, and an alert service.
- A stable and reliable log monitoring service based on the Alibaba Cloud Apsara Monitor service.
- A fully Software as a Service (SaaS) model that minimizes time, labor, and O&M costs, which allows for the rapid deployment of enterprise-grade real-time monitoring.

Business flow
The business flow for Log Monitoring is shown in the following figure.

- Collect logs using Simple Log Service.
- Grant Cloud Monitor permission to read data from Simple Log Service and query your logs.
- Use Log Monitoring to define monitoring metrics and log data processing methods.
- Set alert rules for monitoring metrics.
