This topic introduces the key concepts of CloudMonitor.

Term	Explanation
Site monitoring	Checks the availability of target site URLs and IP addresses. You can create detection points for HTTP (HTTPS), ICMP, TCP, UDP, DNS, POP3, SMTP, and FTP protocols to get the status codes and response times of monitored objects.
Cloud service monitoring	A feature of CloudMonitor that monitors Alibaba Cloud services. It provides metrics for resources across various Alibaba Cloud services under your Alibaba Cloud account, such as ApsaraDB RDS, SLB, and OSS.
Alibaba Cloud service	A general term for cloud products and services provided by Alibaba Cloud, such as Elastic Compute Service (ECS), Server Load Balancer (SLB), and CloudMonitor.
Custom monitoring	You can customize metrics as needed, and add monitoring icons and set alert rules for them.
Alert service	You can set alert rules for metrics in host monitoring, detection points in site monitoring, instances in cloud service monitoring, and metrics in custom monitoring. When a metric meets the conditions of an alert rule, an alert notification is sent.
Metric	A user-defined or system-default type of monitoring data. Examples include the CPU usage, memory usage, and disk usage of an ECS instance.
Dimension	A dimension used to locate a specific metric. For example, the CPU usage of an ECS instance is located by two dimensions: the Alibaba Cloud account ID and the instance ID.
Alert rule	The conditions that trigger an alert for a metric. When a metric meets these conditions, you receive an alert notification.
Mute period	After an alert is sent, if the metric continues to exceed the alert threshold during the mute period, no more alerts are triggered during this period.
Alert contact	The recipient of an alert notification.
Alert contact group	A group of one or more alert contacts. When you create alert rules and application groups, alert notifications are sent to the contacts in the alert contact group. When a threshold is reached, the alert system sends notifications to the contacts in the group based on the preset notification methods.
Notification method	The method used to send alert notifications. Methods include phone calls, text messages, emails, and DingTalk Robot.
Carrier detection point	Internet endpoints provided by carriers such as China Unicom, China Mobile, and China Telecom. CloudMonitor uses these carrier detection points to simulate end-user access behavior. This tests the network quality of carriers in different regions across China.
Alert blacklist	CloudMonitor blocks alert notifications based on alert blacklist policies.
