You can configure multiple product specifications on Alibaba Cloud Marketplace so that users can upgrade, downgrade, or customize their service instance configurations.
To determine whether a purchased service supports configuration changes, see Support for configuration changes.
Billing
After a service is launched on Alibaba Cloud Marketplace, configuration changes for service instances are managed through the marketplace. The cost consists of a resource fee and a software fee. For private deployments, users pay both fees (if applicable). For fully managed deployments, users pay only the software fee.
Prerequisites
-
The service provider has a service in Compute Nest that supports configuration changes. For more information, see Change cloud resource configurations.
-
The service provider has published the Compute Nest service to Alibaba Cloud Marketplace. For more information, see Publish a service as an Alibaba Cloud Marketplace product.
-
You have purchased a service from Alibaba Cloud Marketplace and deployed the service instance.
Procedure
Step 1: Configure change rules for the product
-
This step applies only to subscription products. For pay-as-you-go and pay-per-use products, skip to Step 2: Change the service instance configuration.
-
If the parameter name of an additional billable item is the same as the Compute Nest parameter name, you do not need to configure it for configuration changes. The system automatically binds the item during the change process. For more information, see Publish a service as a subscription Alibaba Cloud Marketplace product.
-
Go to the service provider console of Alibaba Cloud Marketplace and open the Listing page. Find the product you want to configure (status: launched) and click Manage.
-
On the Manage page, click Sales Information. The Upgrade Settings panel appears on the right.
-
In the Upgrade Settings panel, click Configure New Upgrade Rules, select one or more versions that can be upgraded to, and then click OK.
NoteYou can create a new rule only if the service has at least two versions. For example, an upgrade from specification 1 to specification 2 is one rule.
In the Create Rule dialog box, select the source version from the Current Version drop-down list.
For example, specification 2 can be upgraded to specification 5, specification 3, and specification 6 simultaneously.
Step 2: Change the service instance configuration
-
On the Change Configurations of Service Instance page in Alibaba Cloud Marketplace, choose one of the following methods based on the billing method of your service instance.
-
For subscription or pay-per-use service instances, open the page from the Alibaba Cloud Marketplace console or the Compute Nest console.
-
Log on to the buyer portal of Alibaba Cloud Marketplace. On the My Software Subscription page, find the service instance that you want to change.
-
Click Upgrade to go to the Change Configurations of Service Instance page.
-
-
For pay-as-you-go service instances, open the page from the Compute Nest console.
-
Log on to the Compute Nest console. In the navigation pane on the left, click Service Instance.
-
On the Service Instance page, find the service instance that you want to change. Click its name or ID to open the service instance details page.
-
On the Instance Details page, click Modify Configuration in the upper-right corner to go to the Change Configurations of Service Instance page.
-
-
-
On the Change Configurations of Service Instance page, configure the parameters for the configuration change.
-
In the Select Change Type step, select the type of configuration change for the service instance, and then click Next.
The service provider presets the available change types. Three types are supported. The options displayed in the console are definitive.
-
upgrade:
-
If package changes are supported, the serial number of the destination package must be greater than that of the current package.
-
If parameter changes are supported, numeric parameters must increase monotonically. Boolean parameters cannot be changed from
truetofalse. If theAllowedValuesproperty is set for a parameter, you can only select values in ascending order from the list. -
Custom packages do not support upgrades.
-
-
downgrade:
-
If package changes are supported, the serial number of the destination package must be less than that of the current package.
-
If parameter changes are supported, numeric parameters must decrease monotonically. Boolean parameters cannot be changed from
falsetotrue. If theAllowedValuesproperty is set for a parameter, you can only select values in descending order from the list. -
Custom packages do not support downgrades.
-
-
custom: Custom changes have no restrictions on package or parameter changes and support custom packages.
In the change type section of the console, select upgrade, downgrade, or custom based on your requirements.
-
-
In the Configure Parameters step, configure the service instance's new parameters, and then click Next.
Compute Nest filters out unsupported parameters or packages based on the current service instance configuration. The options displayed in the console are definitive. After you set the parameters, the resource fee for the new configuration appears at the bottom of the page.
Note-
The price calculation for configuration changes currently supports only ECS resources. This feature is not available for other cloud products.
The configuration change parameters include: Quantity (set to 2 in this example), instance type (changed from package 1 ecs.g6e.xlarge 4 vCPU/16 GiB to package 2 ecs.g6e.2xlarge 8 vCPU/32 GiB), and data disk space (set to 200 GiB in this example, valid range: 20 to 32768).
-
-
On the Preview Parameter Changes page, confirm the parameter items and their values before and after the change, and then click OK.
The page also displays a before-and-after comparison of the package and the estimated cost.
-
-
(Optional) On the order page, complete the payment.
Important-
The order page appears only when you upgrade specifications or change additional billable items. Otherwise, the configuration change is applied directly after clicking OK.
-
Alibaba Cloud Marketplace does not issue refunds if the new software fee is lower than the original fee. If the new fee is higher, you must pay the difference on the order page.
-
-
On the Overview page of the service instance in the Compute Nest console, check the status of the configuration change.
The configuration change is complete when the status in the Instance Information section changes from Deploying to Deployed.
