If you upgrade your service software or modify service settings, such as settings for managed O&M or O&M notifications, you must configure the service to allow users to upgrade their service instances. This topic describes how to configure service upgrades in Compute Nest.

Background

When you configure a Compute Nest service, you must configure service upgrades to allow users to upgrade their service instances. The service instance performs predefined upgrade operations based on your settings, such as replacing an OS image or running commands to install software. If you enable rollbacks in the upgrade configuration, this setting also supports rolling back a service instance to a previous version.

Configure upgrades during service creation

  1. Log on to the Compute Nest console.

  2. In the navigation pane on the left, select My Services. On the My Services page, select the Created Services tab, and then click Create Service.

  3. On the Create Service page, configure the service information.

This section describes only the parameters required for upgrade configurations. For information about other parameters, see Create a service.

In the Service O&M (Optional) section, on the Upgrade tab, turn on the Support for Users to Upgrade Service Instances switch and set the upgrade parameters.

The upgrade parameters include selecting Support for Rollback, entering an Upgrade Description (required), selecting a Supported Version for Upgrade (required), and selecting Service Settings and Resource Configurations under Service Component for Upgrade.

    • Service Instance Rollback: Specifies whether to allow users to roll back a service instance to this version. Rollback is supported by default.

    • Upgrade Description: Describes the changes in this upgrade.

    • Supported Version for Upgrade: Specifies the source versions that can be upgraded to the current version. You can select one or more published service versions. By default, all versions are selected.

    • Service Component for Upgrade: Specifies the scope of the upgrade for a service instance. When a user upgrades a service instance, the upgrade applies to all configurations within the selected scope.

      • Service Settings: Applies the upgrade only to service settings, such as managed O&M and O&M notification settings, without affecting the software application. This option is required and selected by default.

      • Resource Configurations: Upgrades the resource stack based on changes to the Resource Orchestration Service (ROS) or Terraform template. This option supports upgrades for both cloud resources and software applications.

Update service upgrade configurations

As a service provider, you can update the upgrade configuration for a published service to allow users to upgrade their service instances.

  3. Find the service that you want to update and click the service name to go to the Service Details page.

  4. On the Service Details page, select the version that you want to update.

  5. In the Service O&M section, on the Upgrade tab, click Edit next to Configurations. In the Modify Update Settings dialog box, enter the upgrade information.
