Add a data source

Alibaba Cloud Cloud Backup provides data backup for CPFS. You can back up data from a file system to a Cloud Backup backup vault. After installing a backup client, you must add a data source in the Cloud Backup console.

Prerequisites

  • Cloud Backup is activated. You are not charged for activating Cloud Backup. If you use the CPFS backup feature of Cloud Backup, you are charged for the storage usage of backup vaults. For more information, see Billing of the CPFS backup feature.

  • The CPFS file system can access Alibaba Cloud over the Internet. If Internet access is unavailable, make sure that the CPFS file system is connected to Alibaba Cloud virtual private clouds (VPCs) by using virtual private networks (VPNs) or Express Connect circuits. You must also make sure that you can use a Cloud Backup client to access one of the following CIDR blocks from an on-premises server: 100.64.0.0/10, 100.64.0.0/11, and 100.96.0.0/11. For more information, see Single-tunnel mode.

  • The backup client is installed on the designated backup node. For more information, see Install a backup client.

  • The data source path for backup is prepared. Example: /mnt/cpfs.

  • You have created a CPFS for Lingjun file system, managed its VPC mount targets, and obtained the VPC mount target address. To learn how to mount a CPFS for Lingjun file system, contact the CPFS team.

Important
  • Backup tasks consume resources such as CPU and memory, which can affect the performance of the ECS instance that runs your services. We recommend that you create a new ECS instance dedicated to backup tasks.

  • The new ECS instance must be in the same Virtual Private Cloud (VPC) as CPFS for Lingjun. Creating an ECS instance incurs charges, which are collected by ECS. For more information, see Instance type billing.

  • Before you back up a CPFS for Lingjun file system, contact the CPFS team to confirm that the file system can be mounted on all ECS instances running the backup client.

Usage notes

If the ECS instance on which a Cloud Backup client is installed resides in the region where you use the CPFS backup feature, set the data network to VPC when you create a client group.

  1. Click Settings in the Actions column of the Cloud Backup client that you want to configure.

  2. In the Client Settings dialog box, set Data Network to VPC and click OK.

Procedure

Note

After you create a backup plan, the first backup job performs a full backup and subsequent backup jobs perform incremental backups.

  1. Log on to the Cloud Backup console.

  2. In the left-side navigation pane, choose Back Up > CPFS Backup.

  3. In the top navigation bar, select a region.

  4. On the CPFS Backup page, click Create Data Source.

  5. In the Create Data Source panel, configure the following parameters and click OK.

    Parameter

    Description

    Source Type

    CPFS for Lingjun.

    Data Source Name

A descriptive name for the data source that helps you identify it. For example, cpfs-datasource.

    VPC Mount Target

The address of the mount target, such as cpfs-xxx.region.cpfs.aliyuncs.com.

    CPFS Shared Directory

The shared directory exported by the VPC mount target for CPFS for AI. The default is /.

    Backup Client Group

Select the client machine that has the backup client installed.

A backup client group can contain multiple clients to concurrently execute a backup task.

    • Create Backup Client Group: You can click Create Backup Client Group, specify a custom Client Group Name, and then select the clients to add to the group.

    • Select Backup Client Group: If the client that you want to select has already been added to another client group, you can select an existing client group.

    Note
    • The status of a healthy client is Activated. If the status is abnormal, see Install a backup client for troubleshooting.

    • If you want to save costs on backups by not using the Internet, you can change the Data Network from Internet to VPC in Client Settings after you establish a VPC or a VPN private connection.

For more information about how to install a client, see Install a backup client.

After you add the data source, you can find it on the Data Source List tab. The Backup Plans is None. You can then create a backup plan for the data source. For more information, see Back up CPFS files.
