Region
Data Online Migration uses a region-based deployment architecture to provide nearby access for global users. To achieve optimal data transmission performance, select a suitable region when you create a migration task. Choosing the wrong region can increase network latency, reduce transfer speeds, and cause unstable connections. This can even lead to transfer interruptions or failures, which wastes bandwidth and time.
Choosing the right region significantly improves data transfer performance. This also reduces network costs and avoids extra fees for cross-region transfers.
Data flow path
When you perform a migration, data flows along the following path: Data source → Data Online Migration service → Destination storage address.
The transfer process is as follows:
-
The migration service reads source data over the internet, an Alibaba Cloud internal network, or an agent. This establishes a secure data transfer channel.
-
The data is routed through the migration service and then written to the destination storage address over the internet, an Alibaba Cloud internal network, or an agent.
Supported regions
Before creating a migration task in the console, you must select a service region. For a list of supported regions, see Endpoints.
At the top of the console page, click the region drop-down list and select the target service region (for example, China (Hangzhou)).
How to choose a region
Consider several factors when you choose a region. Follow these recommended strategies:
-
Choose the region where your data source is located: This choice minimizes network latency and provides the best transfer performance.
-
Choose the nearest region: If Data Online Migration is not available in the region of your data source, choose the geographically nearest region. This minimizes the network transfer distance.
The following examples show how to choose a region in different scenarios:
Scenario 1: The data source is in the Beijing region and the destination OSS is in the Shanghai region. → Choose the Beijing region for the Data Online Migration service.
Scenario 2: The data source is in the Singapore region and the destination OSS is in the Shanghai region. → Choose the Singapore region for the Data Online Migration service.
Scenario 3: The data source is in the UK region and the destination OSS is in the Singapore region. → The Data Online Migration service is not deployed in the UK region. Choose the Germany region because it is close to the UK.
