Introduction to preparations

This topic describes the preparation workflow for Dataphin.

1. Prepare accounts.

   1. Prepare an Alibaba Cloud account.

      You must use an Alibaba Cloud account to activate Dataphin. For more information, see Prepare an Alibaba Cloud account.

   2. Prepare a RAM user.

      To ensure project data security, create a Resource Access Management (RAM) user to manage permissions for other users. This lets you strictly control the permissions of users who participate in the Dataphin project. For more information, see Prepare a RAM user.

2. Activate Dataphin.

   You must activate the Dataphin service before you can use Dataphin. For more information, see Activate Dataphin.

3. Initialize the configuration.

   1. Sync RAM user accounts to Dataphin.

      If you use RAM users for fine-grained permission management in Dataphin, you must sync the user accounts to Dataphin. This allows the users to access Dataphin. For more information, see Sync RAM user accounts to Dataphin.

   2. Set the compute engine for the Dataphin instance.

      Before you can use Dataphin, you must set the compute engine for the Dataphin instance. For more information, see Set the compute engine for the Dataphin instance.

4. Prepare data sources and compute sources.

   Before you create a project, you must prepare data sources to read and write data and compute sources to provide compute resources. For more information, see Prepare data sources and compute sources.
