This topic describes the Data Manipulation Language (DML) operations applicable to logical tables.

INSERT OVERWRITE

insert overwrite table {table_name} [partition ({pt_spec})] ({col_name}, {col_name}, ...) {select_statement} from {from_statement};

Inserts or overwrites data in the table. This operation is exclusive to logical dimension tables, logical aggregate tables, and logical fact tables.

Omitting field specifications results in the clearance of all existing data in the target table before inserting new data.
Specifying fields clears the data within those target fields, while data in other fields remains unaffected.
