Create subject areas
Subject areas, evolved from data domains, organize metrics with distinct meanings within the same data section, such as product, transaction, and member domains. You must create subject areas before you start standardized modeling.
Prerequisites

Requires the intelligent R&D edition. Upgrade to the latest version to use this feature. For more information, see the upgrade document.

The data section must already exist. For more information, see the create data section document.
Permission description
Only superusers, system administrators, and section architects can create subject areas.
Procedure

Navigate to the Dataphin home page, select Planning > Data Architecture from the top menu bar.

On the Business Unit page, click the Actions icon in the desired section's
column, and choose New Subject Area.

In the New Subject Area panel, enter the required parameters.

Description
Subject Area Name
Follow these naming conventions:

Include only Chinese characters, English letters (uppercase and lowercase), numbers, underscores (_), and hyphens (-).

Do not exceed 64 characters in length.
Code
Follow these naming conventions:

Include only English letters (uppercase and lowercase), numbers, and underscores (_).

Do not exceed 64 characters in length.
English Abbreviation (optional)
A concise abbreviation that may appear in table names. Follow these naming conventions:

Include only English letters (uppercase and lowercase), numbers, and underscores (_).

Do not exceed 15 characters in length.
Parent Subject Area (optional)
Select a parent subject area. If left blank, the subject area becomes a top-level (level 1) subject area.
NoteA maximum of 5 levels of subject areas can be created.
Description (optional)
A brief description of the subject area. Maximum 1000 characters.

Click Confirm to finalize the creation of the subject area.
View subject areas in Kanban view
Subject areas can be displayed in List View (default) or Kanban View. Switch to Kanban View by clicking the Subject Area Management![]()
icon on the page.
In Kanban View, click the
icon on a subject area card to delete, edit, add subdomain, add entity.
