In DataWorks data governance, asset units offer a flexible way to govern business assets. Within a single asset unit, you can use category perspectives and settings to classify and manage assets for more efficient organization. This topic describes how to configure asset units.
Introduction
The asset unit feature in DataWorks data governance allows you to manage categories for data models, Data Metrics, physical tables within computing resources, and auto triggered tasks. You can consolidate business assets from multiple workspaces into a single asset unit for unified governance, which facilitates data sharing and use.

Configure asset categories
Within an asset unit, you can configure various asset categories based on your needs. You can also create different category perspectives and export your configured categories. After you create categories, you can apply them to business assets to streamline management and governance.
Category perspectives
You can configure up to two category perspectives in an asset unit. By switching between perspectives, you can create multiple category hierarchies, which allows you to manage and govern assets from different viewpoints.
-
Edit a category perspective: While editing categories on the asset category tab, click Edit Category Perspective to modify the perspective.
-
Select a category perspective: After you add multiple category perspectives, click the Category Perspective drop-down list to switch between them.
NoteYou must configure the category hierarchy for each category perspective separately. A new category perspective contains only the All Assets directory by default.
Edit categories
Under each category perspective, you can configure a multi-level category hierarchy. This allows you to assign different assets to specific categories for unified governance.
-
Add category: Click the
button to the right of All Assets or a specific category under Category Settings to add a category under All Assets. -
Set category properties: Select an asset category. In the Category Property Settings pane on the right, you can modify the Category Display Name and Head.
-
Delete a category: To the right of the target category, click the
icon and select Delete to remove the category.
After you finish editing, click Save on the left side of the asset category tab to save your new or modified asset categories.
-
You can add parallel categories or subcategories to build out your hierarchy.
-
You cannot delete a category if it contains subcategories or is bound to any business assets. You must first delete all subcategories and manually unbind the business assets.
Export categories
On the asset category tab, click Export Category as Excel File to export the categories to an Excel file.
Next steps
After you configure the asset unit, you can bind its categories to your business assets.
