Delete and recover a DataWorks workspace-DataWorks(DataWorks)-阿里云帮助中心

You can delete workspaces that you no longer use. To prevent the accidental loss of critical assets, DataWorks provides a recycle bin that lets you recover some assets from a deleted workspace within 14 days. This topic describes the required pre-deletion checks, the deletion procedure, and the recovery steps to help you safely manage workspace cleanup and emergency rollbacks.

Permissions

To delete or recover a workspace, your account must meet one of the following requirements:

An Alibaba Cloud account.
A RAM user granted the AliyunDataWorksFullAccess access policy. For more information, see Product and console permissions: RAM Policy.

Pre-deletion checks

Before you proceed, complete the following checks:

Confirm associated PAI assets:

DataWorks and PAI workspaces share the same underlying infrastructure. Deleting a DataWorks workspace also deletes the associated PAI workspace. You must confirm this with the PAI team before proceeding.
Stop billable items:

Before you delete the workspace, we recommend that you go to Operation Center to freeze or delete any related scheduled tasks. This prevents further charges. If billing continues after deletion, submit a ticket to contact technical support.

Delete a workspace

After you complete the pre-deletion checks, follow these steps to delete the workspace.

Log on to the DataWorks console.
In the left-side navigation pane, click Workspace to go to the Workspaces page.
In the Actions column for the workspace you want to delete, click > Delete Workspace.
In the confirmation dialog box, the system lists the number of core assets in the DataWorks workspace and the associated PAI workspace (such as computing resources, resources, and nodes) for you to review.
Read the risk warning, enter the name of the workspace to be deleted, and click Confirm.
After the workspace is deleted, some of its core assets, including Data Sources, Computing Resources, Node, and Resource, are moved to the recycle bin.

Note

If the data modeling feature of DataWorks is not enabled, Models and Metrics are not displayed in the core assets section on the workspace deletion confirmation page.

Recover a workspace

If you accidentally deleted a workspace, you can recover some core assets from the recycle bin. These assets include Data Sources, Computing Resources, Node, and Resource. You can recover these assets from the recycle bin within the 14-day retention period. Follow these steps:

On the Workspaces page, click Recycle Bin in the upper-right corner.
On the Workspace Recycle Bin page, you can view the Deletion time and Physical deletion countdown for the deleted workspace.

Important
A deleted workspace remains in the recycle bin for a maximum of 14 days. After this period, it is permanently deleted and cannot be recovered.
In the Actions column for the workspace you want to recover, click Recover.

Important

Recovering a workspace restores only some of its core assets: Data Sources, Computing Resources, Node, and Resource. Other assets, such as scheduled tasks and data integration tasks, are not guaranteed to be recovered. Although other assets may be restored, this behavior is not guaranteed. Do not rely on it for your disaster recovery or backup plans.

Note

A node recovered from the recycle bin can be edited, committed, and published again in DataStudio. After you publish the node, it is synchronized with Operation Center for scheduling and management.

FAQ

Q: Can I immediately create a new workspace with the same name as a workspace that has been deleted but is still in the recycle bin?
A: No. After a workspace is moved to the recycle bin, the system reserves its name to ensure the integrity of the recovery process. You cannot create a workspace with the same name during this retention period, which is up to 14 days.

If you need to use the name immediately, you can use one of the following methods:
- Wait for automatic cleanup: After the 14-day retention period ends, the system permanently deletes the workspace and releases its name. You can then create a new workspace with that name.
- Use a new name: Specify a unique name that complies with the naming conventions for the new workspace.
Q: The retention period for a workspace in the recycle bin is 14 days. Can this period be extended?
A: No. The 14-day retention period is a fixed policy and cannot be customized or extended. If you need to recover a deleted workspace, you must do so within 14 days.
