Direct Mail supports transactional and batch emails. This topic covers permitted email types, content requirements, and credit rating rules.
Permitted email types
-
Transactional emails: Emails triggered by events, such as registration notifications, transaction confirmations, password reset verifications, and system alerts.
-
Batch emails: Emails sent to multiple recipients, such as product promotions and newsletters.
Note: Transactional emails can only be sent through API or SMTP. Batch emails support all sending methods.
Alibaba Cloud only permits commercial emails sent with recipient consent. Addresses must come from member registrations, and recipients must have actively subscribed. Unsolicited spam is prohibited.
Before you use the Direct Mail service, review the Direct Mail Terms of Service.
Additional requirements
1. Email content requirements
-
Email content must not contain sensitive words or references to social media and resource sharing, such as WeChat, QQ, QR codes, group chats, Facebook, or cloud storage links.
-
Each email must include a salutation, a detailed and compliant content description, and a valid unsubscribe link.
-
Emails that do not meet the preceding two requirements are strictly prohibited.
2. Permitted emails on the platform
-
The email content must not contain sensitive words, such as reactionary, obscene, abusive, or insulting language.
-
Emails must go to recipients who registered on your site and actively subscribed. Examples: promotional discounts from a followed store on an e-commerce platform, or job recommendations after registration on a recruitment site.
-
Unsolicited promotional emails are prohibited. This includes emails to recipients with no prior relationship to your company (non-members, non-registered users) and addresses obtained without consent. These emails, sometimes called developer letters, are not allowed.
-
Emails to business partners must include recipient information, a salutation, and an unsubscribe link. If a recipient reports your email as spam, the sender address and all other sender addresses under your Alibaba Cloud account in that region are frozen. After the freeze, the Direct Mail console in that region becomes unavailable.
-
Emails that do not meet the preceding two requirements are prohibited.
Note: You are responsible for implementing the unsubscribe link and handling unsubscribe requests.
How the unsubscribe service works
The unsubscribe service is typically part of your own system. Each email must contain a unique unsubscribe link that includes the recipient's address. When clicked, your service parses the address from the link and removes it from your mailing list.
Credit rating rules
Direct Mail assigns a dynamic credit rating based on delivery quality metrics: delivery rate, invalid address rate, and spam complaint rate. The rating adjusts automatically.
Credit rating
After activation, your account receives an initial credit rating based on your Alibaba Cloud account level. The minimum initial rating is Level 2 (2,000 emails/day). The maximum is Level 16 (10,000,000 emails/day).
View your user status, credit rating, daily quota, and monthly quota on the Overview page of the Direct Mail console.
