Configure a sender address
This topic describes how to create a sender address, verify a reply-to address, and set an SMTP password.
A sender address is the From address that recipients see in emails sent through DirectMail. Each sender address is built from a sender domain bound to DirectMail and a username prefix you choose — for example, if your domain is example.com and your username is notify, the resulting address is notify@example.com.
After creating a sender address, you can optionally verify a reply-to address so that recipient replies land in a mailbox you control, and set an SMTP password to enable SMTP sending for that address.
Create a sender address
Log on to the DirectMail console.
In the left-side navigation pane, click Sender Addresses.
-
In the upper-right corner of the page, click Create Sender Address.
The Create Sender Address dialog box appears. The account supports a maximum of 100 sender addresses and 10 deletions per calendar month.
Configure the following fields, then click OK.
-
Field
Description
Sender Domain
The domain that forms the second half of the sender address. Select a domain already bound to DirectMail. To bind a domain first, see Configure a sender domain.
Account
The username prefix before the @ symbol. Visible to recipients as the local part of your From address.
Reply-to Address
The address where recipient replies are delivered. Must be verified before use — see Verify a reply-to address below.
Note: When sending via the API, the reply-to address configured here is not applied automatically. Specify it explicitly in each API request.
Mail type
Controls whether this address is used for transactional email or batch email. Using the correct type protects your sender reputation and improves deliverability.
Note: To send emails from the console, set the mail type to batch email. Addresses configured for transactional email are not available for console sends.

Verify a reply-to address
Verifying a reply-to address confirms that you control the mailbox and allows DirectMail to route replies to it. Without verification, the reply-to address cannot receive replies.
On the Sender Addresses page, find the sender address and click Verify Reply-to Address.
-
In the dialog box that appears, click Get Verification Code.
DirectMail sends a verification email to the reply-to address.
-
Open the mailbox for the reply-to address, copy the verification code from the email, enter it in the dialog box, and click OK.
The verification code expires after 15 minutes. You must complete the verification within this time.

If you do not receive the verification email or encounter other issues, see Reply-to address issues.
Set an SMTP password
Setting an SMTP password enables SMTP sending for a sender address.
On the Sender Addresses page, find the address and click Set SMTP Password.
-
Enter the SMTP password and click OK.
Set the SMTP password before attempting any SMTP sends. After creating a sender address, wait 10 minutes before sending emails from it.
