This topic describes how to view your backup data size in Disaster Recovery for Data (DBS) and how to reduce backup data to lower your costs.
View backup data size
backup data size = full backup size + incremental backup size
-
Log on to the Data Management (DMS) console.
-
In the top navigation bar, choose .
NoteIf you use the DMS console in simple mode, move the pointer over the
icon in the upper-left corner of the DMS console and choose . -
Click the name of the target backup plan to go to the Configure Task page.
-
In the Billing section, view the full backup data size and the incremental backup data size.
Note-
If the total size of your full and incremental backups for the current month does not exceed the free monthly quota, no additional backup fees are charged. You are charged on a pay-as-you-go basis for the portion that exceeds the free quota. For more information, see Billing Items (DMS).
-
If you use the built-in storage of DBS, you are also charged for storage. For more information, see Billing Items (DMS).
-
The backup data size is the cumulative amount of data transferred for each backup in the current month. This value does not decrease even if a backup set is deleted when its retention period expires.
-
If the incremental backup data size is 0, the possible reasons are:
-
You have not enabled incremental backup. To learn how to enable it, see Enable or disable incremental log backup.
-
Incremental backup is enabled, but no new incremental data has been generated, and historical incremental data has been cleared.
-
-
Reduce backup data
Reducing your backup data can lower your costs, but it may also compromise the continuity or integrity of your backups. To avoid impacting your data recovery operations, perform full backups at a reasonable frequency.
These methods apply only to backup plans created in the Disaster Recovery for Data (DBS) console and backup plans automatically generated for ApsaraDB RDS instances that are connected to the Disaster Recovery for Data (DBS) console. They do not apply to dump backup plans generated for cross-region RDS backups. For more information, see What is a dump backup plan generated by a cross-region RDS backup?
Manually delete a full backup
-
Log on to the Data Management (DMS) console.
-
In the top navigation bar, choose .
NoteIf you use the console in simple mode, click the
icon in the upper-left corner and choose . -
Click the name of the target backup plan.
-
In the left-side navigation pane, click .
-
Find the target backup set and click Delete Backup Set in the Actions column. For more information, see Delete a backup set.
Automatically delete full or incremental backups (shorten the retention period)
-
Log on to the Data Management (DMS) console.
-
In the top navigation bar, choose .
NoteIf you use the DMS console in simple mode, move the pointer over the
icon in the upper-left corner of the DMS console and choose . -
Click the name of the target backup plan.
-
On the Configure Task page, in the Lifecycle section, click Set Lifecycle.
You can set a retention period from 7 to 3,650 days. Backup sets are automatically deleted after the retention period expires.
Reduce full backup frequency
-
Log on to the Data Management (DMS) console.
-
In the top navigation bar, choose .
NoteIf you use the DMS console in simple mode, move the pointer over the
icon in the upper-left corner of the DMS console and choose . -
Click the name of the target backup plan.
-
On the Configure Task page, in the Basic Information section, click Backup Time and Advanced Settings to reduce the full backup frequency.
Delete or migrate unneeded data
Before you run a full backup, delete or migrate any data that you do not need to back up to ensure it is excluded from the process.
Disable incremental backup
After you disable incremental backup, new incremental backup data is no longer generated. Historical data is automatically cleared when its retention period expires.
-
Log on to the Data Management (DMS) console.
-
In the top navigation bar, choose .
NoteIf you use the DMS console in simple mode, move the pointer over the
icon in the upper-left corner of the DMS console and choose . -
Click the name of the target backup plan.
-
On the Configure Task page, in the Running Information section, click Disable Incremental Log Backup.
NoteAfter you disable incremental backup, new incremental backup data is no longer generated. Historical data is automatically cleared when its retention period expires.
