Service activation
Before activation
Without Private Zone, Alibaba Cloud DNS still provides free DNS services: default Private Zone for ECS instances and containers in a VPC, and Alibaba Cloud service domain resolution. These services start automatically when you launch an ECS instance.
Recursive DNS resolution relies on external third-party DNS systems. Alibaba Cloud does not provide an SLA for outages caused by external network or third-party DNS failures.
After activation
Activate Private Zone to use its paid features.
Activation automatically creates the AliyunServiceRoleForPvtz service-linked role and attaches the AliyunServiceRolePolicyForPvtz policy if they do not already exist.
The following table compares features before and after activation.
