Instance list

Overview

The instance list displays key information about your Global Traffic Manager (GTM) instances, including instance ID, CNAME access domain, health check tasks, alert notifications, running status, edition, expiration time, and available actions.

Why use instances

GTM uses one instance per application service to provide fine-grained traffic control. For example, instance 1 manages traffic for www.dns-example.com and instance 2 for dns-example.com. Separate instances simplify management, align with elastic resource usage, and minimize disruption from IP address failures.

How to create an instance

To use GTM, create an instance first.

Instance list details

1. ID/Name

• ID: A unique identifier auto-generated when you create a GTM instance. Used for upgrades, renewals, and releases.

• Name: A user-defined label assigned during basic configuration to identify the application service.

2. CNAME access domain

   Each GTM instance is assigned a CNAME access domain. To route traffic through GTM, create a CNAME record that points your service domain to this access domain.

3. Number of health check tasks

   The number of health check tasks equals the number of IP addresses in an address pool multiplied by the number of monitoring nodes.

   Note

   • Only address pools with enabled health checks count toward your quota.

   • Both editions include 100 tasks. To add more, purchase a health check task package.

   • Formula:

   Configured tasks = Addresses in the pool × Monitoring nodes.

   For multiple address pools, sum the results for each pool.

4. Number of alert notifications

   The number of alert notifications sent in the current month. Standard Edition: 1,000/month. Ultimate Edition: 2,000/month. To add more, purchase a domestic SMS notification package: click Upgrade, select Domestic SMS Notification Package, set the quantity, and click Buy Now.

5. Running status

   The running status can be Normal or Abnormal.

   Status	Description
   Normal	Health checks are disabled, or all enabled health checks are passing.
   Abnormal	At least one enabled health check has failed. Abnormal alerts include: Number of faulty addresses Number of unavailable address pool sets Number of access policies switched to secondary address pool sets Access policies with unavailable active address pool sets

6. Edition

   Either Standard Edition or Ultimate Edition.

7. Expiration time

   The date when the instance expires. Reminders are sent 7 days, 3 days, and 1 day before expiration.

8. Actions

   Configure: Set up the instance, including basic configuration, access policy, address pool set, address pool, and health checks.

   Upgrade: Upgrade from Standard to Ultimate Edition, or purchase additional health check task packages or domestic SMS notification packages.

   Renew: Renew before expiration to avoid service interruptions. Enable Auto-renewal.
