Configure address pools to manage service endpoints and enable region-based traffic routing.

Key concepts

Address pool: A GTM feature that groups service endpoints for region-based traffic routing. One Access Domain can have multiple address pools, and multiple Access Domain can share a single address pool.

Create Address Pool

  1. Go to Alibaba Cloud DNS - Global Traffic Manager.

  2. Click Address Pool > Create Address Pool.

  3. On the Create Address Pool page, click the Address Pool icon > Basic Configuration.

  4. Complete the basic configuration.

    Parameter

    Description

    Address Pool Name

A descriptive name for the address pool (for example, "test"). Access policies reference this name.

    Type

    Options: IPv4, IPv6, and Zone.

The Access Domain of the Type determines the available Type. The following table shows the mappings.

    Access Domain Record Type

    Address pool type

    A

    IPv4, Domain Name

    AAAA

    IPv6, Domain Name

    CNAME

    Domain Name

    Health Status Conditions

The threshold for determining address pool health. Options:

    • At least one address in the address pool is available.

    • At least 30% of the addresses in the address pool are available.

    • At least 50% of the addresses in the address pool are available.

    • At least 70% of the addresses in the address pool are available.

    • All addresses in the address pool are available.

Evaluation logic is described in Health status.

    Enabed State

Enabled by default. When set to Disabled, GTM excludes this pool from DNS resolution.

    Remarks

Optional description for the address pool.

Configure addresses

Important
  • You cannot add the same address to an address pool more than once.

  • You cannot add multiple addresses with the same endpoint to a single address pool.

Address Pool

  1. On the Access Domain configuration page, click the Address Pool icon > Add Address.

  2. Configure the address settings in the panel. Parameter details are in 3. Address Configuration.

Address Pool

  1. On the Access Domain configuration page, click the Address Pool icon > Select Address.

  2. Select one or more existing addresses. The list displays only addresses that match the address pool type.

Select a target address from the Endpoint drop-down list. The Probe Template column shows the associated template. Click + Add a row to add more addresses, or Delete to remove one.

Manage address pools

Unbind Current Pool

Impact: Removes the address pool from this Access Domain. The pool stops participating in DNS resolution for this domain but remains available to other Access Domains.

Note

After disassociation, DNS queries may still resolve to the pool's addresses until ISP DNS caches expire (typically 10–30 minutes, based on the record's TTL).

  1. On the Access Domain configuration page, click the Address Pool icon > Unbind Current Pool.

  2. Confirm the disassociation in the dialog box.

Impact

Enable Globally

Ensure the Address Pool is configured correctly and its Service Availability is Available.

Once enabled, the pool participates in DNS resolution.

Disable Globally, Delete Globally

If multiple Address Pool share an address, disabling or deleting it affects all associated Access Domains.

Important

After an address is disabled or deleted, GTM stops routing new requests to it. DNS queries may still return the address until ISP DNS caches expire.

Procedure

  1. On the Access Domain configuration page, click the Address Pool icon, and then click Enable Globally, Disable Globally, or Delete Globally.

  2. Confirm the action in the dialog box.

Address Pool

Health Status

  • Normal: All addresses referenced by the Address Pool are available.

  • Warning: Some addresses in the Address Pool are unavailable, but the count is within the Health Status Conditions threshold. The status is Warning, and the Address Pool resolves DNS queries only to available addresses.

  • Abnormal: Unavailable addresses in the Address Pool exceed the Health Status Conditions threshold. The status becomes Abnormal, and the pool stops responding to DNS queries.

Service Availability

The Service Availability is determined by the Enabed State and Health Status:
