Overview
When you delete or modify a DNS record, the change does not take effect immediately. The effective time is affected by the Time to Live (TTL) setting and the local cache of your ISP or public recursive DNS. This process can take from 5 minutes to 48 hours. For more information, see DNS record effective time FAQ. To reduce the effective time, Alibaba Cloud DNS works with Alibaba Cloud Public DNS to provide the linked refresh feature. This feature reduces the effective time to less than 5 seconds.
Enablement conditions
The linked refresh feature is automatically enabled for paid users of Alibaba Cloud DNS. This includes Global Traffic Manager (GTM) users. Record change requests for the domain names of these users are synced to Alibaba Cloud Public DNS in real time. Note: The DNS linked refresh feature does not support wildcard domain names.
Target audience
This feature is for users who need DNS changes to take effect quickly. A short effective time for DNS resolution makes service traffic scheduling more flexible and rapid. It also makes switchovers more effective.
Note: Regular users can also configure Alibaba Cloud Public DNS to benefit from faster domain name resolution. (Nearly half of the domain names with an ICP filing in China use Alibaba Cloud DNS. Domain names within the Alibaba ecosystem also support linked refresh.)
