Control devices with Google Home using the Cloud Intelligence App

For products that use the Cloud Intelligence App, you can enable Google Assistant with one-click activation. This lets you control devices with a Google Home speaker.

Background information

This example uses Google Assistant. For more information, see the official Google Assistant documentation.

Limitations

Only devices activated in the following regions can connect to Google Home:

  • Outside China
  • Hong Kong (China)
  • Macao (China)
  • Taiwan (China)

Enable in the console

  1. Make sure your product is supported by Google Assistant.
    The IoT Living Platform now supports Google Assistant categories Product categories officially recommended by Google Assistant

    Note The platform is gradually adding more product categories supported by Google Assistant. If your product is not on this list, contact business and technical support to confirm that your product is supported before you proceed.
  2. Purchase and enable the Google Assistant service.
    1. Go to the Service Center and click Enable Service for Google Assistant.
      Note Voice services purchased and enabled in the Service Center cannot be used for skills created in the IoT Platform.
    2. Assign a project and create a new product in it. For more information, see Create a product.
    3. Define the product features. For more information, see Add standard functions.
    4. On the Human-Computer Interaction page, turn on the switch for Control Product with Public App, and then click Settings for Google Assistant
      Turn on the switch for Google Assistant.

  3. Debug the device.
    1. Burn the certificate information to the test device. For more information, see Develop a device.
    2. Download the Cloud Intelligence App to debug the device. For more information, see Cloud Intelligence App overview. After you configure the network and attach your test device, follow the steps in the For consumers section to attach Google Assistant and control the device.
    Important When you create an account for the first time, select a country or region other than the Chinese mainland, such as the United States.

For consumers

The Cloud Intelligence App supports device control through Google Home and Google Assistant. Follow these steps to use this feature.

  1. Make sure you have a device connected to the IoT Platform (Alibaba Cloud International Website). Download the Cloud Intelligence app from your mobile app store and attach the device.
  2. Make sure you have a Google Home speaker. Download the Google Home or Google Assistant app from your mobile app store and attach the speaker.
    Note For iOS users, search for and download Google Home from the U.S. App Store. For Android users, search for and download Google Home from Google Play.
  3. In the Google Home client, click "+". Under Set up devices, select the option to add an existing device. Search for Cloud Intelligence. Enter the account and password for your Cloud Intelligence app to add your smart device.
  4. Control your device, such as a light, with the following commands.
    • Turn the light on or off: Hey Google, turn on/off the light.
    • Adjust the light's brightness: Hey Google, brighten/dim the light.
    • Adjust the light's color: Hey Google, set the light to yellow.
    • Adjust the light's color temperature: Hey Google, set the light to warm white.
