Introduction to activation codes
After development, each device requires a unique activation code to connect to the IoT Platform. For more information, see Activation code concepts.
IoT Platform activation codes vary by device type, as described in the following table.
Device type | Activation code description |
Standard device | Device activation code: An activation code for all devices except video devices.

Video device | Video activation code: An activation code used only for video devices. |
Legacy activation codes: These are device activation codes from a previous version of the IoT Platform. They can be used for the mass production of standard devices. If you have an older account, you can start using the new device activation codes after you have used all your legacy codes.
Activation code fees
The following table details the fees for IoT Platform activation codes.

IPC (Industry) | For connecting video surveillance cameras in Small and Medium Business (SMB) scenarios, such as store or villa monitoring. The fee is calculated as This fee is calculated every six months from the date of the activation code purchase. The message package included with a device activation code is valid for three years. The validity period starts 90 days after the product enters mass production.
Before the validity period expires, both parties must fulfill their rights and obligations related to the service during the product's service term, as specified in the Alibaba Cloud Link IoT Platform Terms of Service.
After the product service term expires, Alibaba Cloud reserves the right to charge consumers a software service fee.
IoT Platform activation codes are cloud resources. After a product enters mass production, you cannot request returns or refunds for the purchased codes. Purchase codes carefully based on your actual needs.
The IoT Platform limits the number of messages that a device can report each day per activation code. For more information, see Message communication billing. Devices such as photovoltaic inverters, robot vacuums, and gateway devices may have special requirements for message quotas. To obtain a quote, contact the platform's business team by email at

Purchase activation codes for a product
- Log on to the IoT Platform console.
Go to the activation code purchase page using one of the following methods. For detailed steps, see Purchase activation codes.
On the Homepage of the console, click Purchase Activation Code.
Go to the Mass Production page. On the Mass Production Management tab, click the Purchase Activation Code or Purchase Video Activation Code button.
Go to the Activation Code page. On the Activation Code Overview tab, click the Purchase Device Activation Code or Purchase Video Activation Code button.
NoteVideo activation codes are available in multiple specifications. When purchasing, select the specification that matches your application scenario and is compatible with your device specifications. For more information, see the Activation code fees section in this document.
Configure the number of activation codes to purchase and complete the payment as prompted.
To ensure data security, you can create multiple projects, purchase activation codes centrally, and then assign them to different projects. For more information, see Assign activation codes.
