To create a unified IoT platform for consumer smart devices, the Tmall Genie IoT Open Platform and the Living IoT Platform have been merged. The system release and data migration will take place from July 3 to July 5. During this period, your activated devices will continue to function as normal. However, you may experience brief interruptions when you access the console.
The new integrated platform supports two business models.
Empowering the smart living industry as a cloud product. The platform provides global, intelligent, and paid cloud services to customers worldwide.
IoT products developed as part of a proprietary brand project on IoT Living Platform can be sold globally. You can also develop a proprietary brand app to enhance your brand image.
Providing device access for the Tmall Genie IoT ecosystem. The platform works with manufacturers in China to build an IoT ecosystem around Tmall Genie.
Products connected to the Tmall Genie IoT ecosystem can be controlled by all Tmall Genie ecosystem terminals, such as Tmall Genie smart speakers of various models, the Tmall Genie app, and Tmall Genie for vehicles. This enables multi-modal interactions, including voice and touch, and provides consumers with features such as device control, status queries, broadcasting, scene-based automation, and proactive services. The Tmall Genie IoT ecosystem has connected with over 1,500 brands, more than 200 product categories, and over 7,000 product models.
The integrated platform uses unified standards for Thing Specification Language (TSL) models, device certificates, firmware development, and application development. The platform will continue to combine IoT technologies, such as Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and cloud services, with Tmall Genie's AI capabilities. These capabilities include Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR), Natural Language Processing (NLP), and Text-to-Speech (TTS) synthesis. This combination provides you with more advanced smart services.
TSL Model Changes
To prepare for future access to Tmall Genie's extensive voice training data that is built on TSL models, the integrated platform now uses the TSL model definitions from the original Tmall Genie platform. The changes include the following. You can create a new product after the upgrade to view the full details.
- Category identifier changes
- Standard property, event, and service identifier changes
Impact of TSL Model Changes
The TSL model changes do not affect existing products. These changes apply only to newly created products. The impact and usage notes are as follows.
- Create a new product using the new TSL model
Review your device-side, app-side, and cloud-side code for references to the old TSL model. Then, fully test compatibility between the old and new TSL models.
- Create a new product using the old TSL model
You can copy an existing product to continue using the TSL model of the legacy category. For more information, see Copy a product.
We encourage you to gradually migrate to the new TSL model. We will soon add more UI panels based on the new TSL model. Later, we will introduce more features that are built on the new TSL model, such as industry-specific applications and voice training data.
Because the TSL models have changed, you cannot import or export TSL models between the old and new versions. Instead, use the product copy feature. For more information, see Copy a product.
Impact on Tmall Genie Voice Activation
Because of the platform integration, the Tmall Genie voice activation feature on the Human-Machine Interaction page is temporarily disabled. We plan to restore this feature by the end of July. During this period, only products for which Tmall Genie integration has not been enabled are affected. You cannot enable Tmall Genie integration for these products.
Migrate Your Original Tmall Genie IoT Account
If you used the original Tmall Genie IoT platform, you must migrate your account.
Starting July 8, you can log on to the Tmall Genie IoT Platform and follow the prompts to migrate your account. After the migration, all products that you created on the original platform will appear in the Living IoT Console. In the console, you can edit, debug, and mass-produce these products. For more information about the Living IoT Platform, see What is the Living IoT Platform?.
Your account verification level determines the actions that you can perform in the Living IoT Platform. The differences are as follows.
| Verification level | Permissions |
| Alibaba Cloud individual verification | Log on, create projects and products, and debug |
| Alibaba Cloud enterprise verification | Log on, create projects and products, debug, publish products, list products, and mass-produce devices |
To experience the full workflow after the migration, prepare an Alibaba Cloud enterprise-verified account in advance. Start verification
