Manage application groups

Application groups help you organize applications. For example, you can group applications that are related to the same business. Application groups use a tree structure to display their hierarchy.

Note

In the new version of Application Management, you must create an application group before you create an application. You can then assign the application to the group. For compatibility with the previous version of Application Management, the system provides a default Unassigned Applications list. This list displays all applications that are not assigned to a group.

Create an application group

You can define a hierarchy for your application groups. Each group can have only one parent group, and a level-1 group can have multiple level-2 groups.

Note

Application groups at the same level cannot have the same name. Groups are at the same level if they share the same parent group or if they have no parent group.

Create a level-1 application group

  1. Log on to the Application Management console. In the navigation pane on the left, click Application List.

  2. In the application group tree on the left, click Add Group. In the dialog box that appears, enter the following information and click OK.

    Note

The application group owner defaults to the current user.

    • Application group name: Required. Ensure that application groups at the same level do not have the same name. Otherwise, the creation fails.

    • Application group description: Optional.

Create a level-2 application group

  1. Log on to the Application Management console. In the navigation pane on the left, click Application List.

  2. In the application group tree on the left, find the level-1 group to which you want to add a level-2 group. Click the add icon on the right. In the dialog box that appears, enter the following information and click OK.

    • Application group name: Required. Ensure that application groups at the same level do not have the same name. Otherwise, the creation fails.

    • Application group description: Optional.

Edit application dependencies

You can set dependencies for an application group on applications within the same group or in other groups.

  1. Log on to the Application Management console. In the navigation pane on the left, click Application List.

  2. In the application group tree on the left, click the group whose dependencies you want to edit. Click Edit Dependencies on the right. In the dialog box that appears, select the applications on which the applications in your group depend, and then click OK.

    Note

Only the first level of cross-group dependencies is displayed. In the dependency graph, applications within the group are marked with blue icons, and applications outside the group are marked with gray icons.

Delete an application group

You can delete application groups that you no longer use. You must remove all applications and subgroups from a group before you can delete it.

  1. Log on to the Application Management console. In the navigation pane on the left, click Application List.

  2. In the application group tree on the left, click the group that you want to delete. Click Delete Group on the right.

  3. In the dialog box that appears, click Confirm.

Search for an application group

Enter the name of the application group in the search box and click the search icon.
