Voting Tool

Updated at:

This feature is available only to paid customers and is no longer sold to new customers.

The Voting Tool feature allows brands to run promotional activities on their WeChat Official Accounts. It boosts engagement by encouraging users to share images and invite friends to vote. This helps brands gain significant exposure and attract many new followers to their Official Account in a short period.

Activity list

You can use the Voting Tool to set participation rules and configure the frontend activity page from the background. After an activity starts, you can control its progress in real-time, view activity records, and track key operational metrics. This section describes the configuration process for Voting Tool activities and the frontend page.

  1. On the Voting Tool activity list page, you can view the list of voting activities, their start and end times, and their promotion channels. You can filter activities by date range and perform management operations, such as Promote Activity and Delete Activity. The following figure shows an example:1

  2. You can select a time range to filter the list and find a specific voting activity. The following figure shows an example:2

Voting activity configuration

  1. On the Voting Tool activity list page, click the Add Voting Activity button in the upper-right corner to start configuring the activity. The following figure shows an example:

  2. On the Add Voting Activity page, enter basic information, such as the activity name, duration, and channel. The following figure shows an example:4

  3. After you enter the basic information, the Voting Activity Details page appears. The following figure shows an example:5

  4. Next, you need to complete the activity rule settings and activity page configuration. Click the button in the on-page reminder or the button on the right side of the page to open the settings page. The following figure shows an example:6

    1. Click Set Activity Rules.

      1. On the activity rules page, first, set the Participation Rules. You can choose not to set a limit on the number of participants to attract as many users as possible. Alternatively, you can limit the number of participants to make the activity more manageable. If the limit is reached, users cannot register for the activity.

      2. For the Default Status of Entries, you can select Enabled or Disabled. If you select Disabled, each entry must be manually enabled before it is displayed on the frontend activity page. This acts as a review mechanism. The following figure shows an example:

        7

      3. You can configure the registration information to collect from participants. By default, the Voting Tool requires each user to submit their name and mobile phone number. The mobile phone number requires validation. You can also add custom fields to collect more user information.

      4. Click the Add Field button to enter the field information. The field name is the label for the information to be collected, such as home address, email address, or entry declaration. You can set each field as optional or required. The field type defines the format of the field value. Supported formats include single-line text, multi-line text, date, address, single-choice, and multiple-choice. For single-choice and multiple-choice types, you must predefine the options for users to select. Configure the option values based on your requirements. In general, avoid adding too many registration fields, because this can create a barrier to entry and reduce participation. The following figure shows an example:

      5. Set the Follow Guide QR Code. This QR code prompts users to scan and follow the Official Account during the activity. You must first generate the QR code on the Official Account > Promotion QR Code page and then select it from the drop-down list. The following figure shows an example:8

      6. In Voting Settings, you can set the number of votes each user can cast per day and specify whether contestants can vote for themselves. In Prize Settings, you can edit prize names and their sort order. The sort order determines the display order of prizes on the frontend activity page. By default, first, second, and third prizes are available, but you can modify them. The following figure shows an example:

      7. In Text Message Notification Settings, you can configure text message notifications to be sent for popular and winning entries to increase user engagement. You can also customize the vote threshold that qualifies an entry as popular.

    2. Click Set Activity Page.

      1. On the activity page settings, you can customize the frontend display of the main activity page and preview your changes in real-time.

      2. You can add a main activity thumbnail, a registration background image, an activity rules background image, and an activity theme color to match your brand's style. You can also customize the number of entries displayed on the activity home page and edit the activity rules. The activity rules are displayed on a separate page, which you can access from the preview page. The voting script field is optional.

      3. Next, set the activity sharing rules. Add a sharing title, summary, and image to attract more users to vote and participate in the activity. The following figures show examples:

        10

      4. After you configure the activity rules and page, you can assign tags to users who participate in the activity. Click Set User Tags for Activity Participants on the voting activity details page to automatically tag contestants and voters. You must first create these tags in the tag library and then select them from the drop-down list. After the settings are complete, contestants and voters are automatically assigned the corresponding tags. The following figure shows an example:

  1. After you complete the basic activity settings, you can start and promote the activity. Click the Promote Activity button in the upper-right corner of the Voting Activity Details page. You can copy the activity URL and add it to the Official Account menu bar. Users can click the menu to go to the activity registration page. You can also download the QR code to allow users to scan and participate. The following figures show examples:

  2. You can also place the activity link in the auto-reply content for the promotion QR code associated with this voting activity. When a user scans the QR code and follows the Official Account, they receive the reply and can click the link to register. The following figure shows an example:

  3. After the promotion channel is set up, you can start the activity. Once the activity starts, the Voting Tool lets you control the activity's progress in real-time from the activity console. You can enable different stages of the activity sequentially based on its progress. The following figure shows an example:16

    1. Before the activity starts, all operations in the console are disabled. After the activity starts, all operations are enabled. The following figure shows an example:1

    2. After the activity page is published, the main activity page is displayed on the frontend. This lets you promote the activity before it officially begins. The following figure shows an example:

    7. After you confirm the list of winners, you can send text message notifications to the winners. The following figure shows an example:1

Frontend page for user participation

  1. When a user clicks the voting activity promotion link, the main activity page appears. The user can click Activity Rules to view the detailed rules. In the Leaderboard and Latest Registrations sections, they can view the current entries. To participate, they can click I Want to Register. On the Personal Information page, they must enter the required registration information and upload an entry image that meets the requirements. The following figure shows an example:1

  2. Users must enter and validate their mobile phone number. This number will be used as the contact method if the entry wins. After entering the registration information, the user can click Generate Poster to create a personal entry page. The poster image will contain text prompting others to vote. Other users can scan the QR code on the poster to vote.

  3. Next, the user can click Help Me Get Votes and follow the on-screen prompts to share their personal poster and attract votes from others. The following figure shows an example:image

  4. When another user clicks the shared link, they are taken to that contestant's entry page. On this page, they can view the entry, current vote count, rank, and other information. They can click Vote Now to vote for the contestant, share the contestant's poster to help them obtain more votes, or click I Want to Register in the upper-right corner to participate in the activity themselves. This sharing mechanism helps attract more users to the activity. The following figure shows an example:

Data statistics

  1. During the activity, the Voting Tool provides real-time access to key metrics and details. Key metrics include Page Views (the total number of views of the activity page), Entries (the number of successful registrations), Votes (the total number of successful votes cast), and Official Account Follows (the number of new followers gained through the activity's promotion channel). You can view trend graphs for these metrics over a specified time period and export the data. The following figures show examples:1

    1

  2. The Voting Tool also lets you view entry records, voting records, the list of winners, and vote count modification records in real-time. In Entry Records, you can view the vote counts and rankings of participants and assign prizes to them. If a user is found to have engaged in fraudulent voting, an operator can manually modify their vote count in the entry records. The following figure shows an example:1

  3. In Voting Records, you can view voters' basic information and voting details. The following figure shows an example:1

  4. In the List of Winners, you can view the list of winners and remove users from it if necessary. The following figure shows an example:1
