This page describes the product types and pricing of ApsaraDB for OceanBase.
Instance types
ApsaraDB for OceanBase provides three main types of database instances: cluster instances, tenant instances, and Serverless instances.
Cluster instance: A cluster instance consists of an OceanBase database and its required resources, such as server nodes, a virtual private cloud (VPC), and other cloud resources.
Tenant instance: A tenant instance uses the native tenant isolation technology of OceanBase to virtually isolate a compute resource from a large cluster, allowing it to function as a standalone database instance. You can create databases within the tenant instance and tables within those databases to serve your applications. Tenant instances can be dedicated or shared. This release only includes the shared type. Shared tenant instances use a common set of control and storage resources. Currently, only 1C4G and 2C8G specifications are available. These instances are designed for developers or scenarios with small data volumes that do not require high availability. Do not use them for high-availability scenarios, such as core enterprise services.
Serverless instance: Serverless instances leverage the native multi-tenant feature of OceanBase Database and the cloud's automatic scaling capabilities. This allows resources to scale dynamically in response to your business workload, reducing your operational overhead and costs.

Scenarios | Cluster instances provide a database service with high availability, high performance, and high extensibility. They support the storage and processing of massive data volumes. They are suitable for large-scale, high-concurrency application scenarios. | Tenant instances are designed for developers or scenarios with small data volumes that do not require high availability. Do not use them for high-availability scenarios, such as core enterprise services. | Serverless instances provide a pay-as-you-go, elastically scalable computing service. They support rapid development, deployment, and O&M. Serverless database instances are billed in OceanBase Capacity Units (OCUs). One OCU is approximately 1 core and 2 GB of resources. The minimum compute resource for a single scaling event is 0.5 OCU.
Migration from tenant instances to cluster instances is not currently supported. This feature will be available in a future release.
Billing methods
OceanBase offers two billing methods: subscription and pay-as-you-go. The price depends on the final configuration, which includes the instance type, series, region, deployment method, node specifications, number of workers, storage class, and storage size.
Subscription
You pay for the compute nodes of the instance in advance when you create it. You can select a fixed storage size or customize the storage size.
Pay-as-you-go
You do not need to pay in advance when you create the instance. You can select a fixed storage size or customize the storage size. The compute nodes and storage space are billed hourly. The fees are deducted from your account on an hourly basis.
NoteApsaraDB for OceanBase generates bills on the hour. If you use the service for any part of an hour, you are billed for the full hour. Monitor your account balance and add funds as needed to prevent service interruptions due to insufficient funds.
When you create a pay-as-you-go instance, ensure that your account balance is at least CNY 100. Otherwise, you cannot place the order.

Specification types
ApsaraDB for OceanBase provides two types of node specifications: General-purpose and Dedicated. For more information, see Product specifications.
General-purpose: The cluster instance has dedicated memory but shares CPU resources with other General-purpose instances on the same node. This type is suitable for scenarios that do not have high performance and throughput requirements.
Dedicated: The cluster instance has dedicated CPU and memory resources. This type is suitable for scenarios that require long-term stable performance, such as medium-to-large-scale internet businesses.
Limits
ApsaraDB for OceanBase supports General-purpose specifications for cluster instances in some regions. Currently, this is supported for the Standard Edition (Cloud Disk) series in the China (Zhangjiakou) region. Support will be extended to more regions in the future. Billing by node specification
To help you directly determine the final transaction price, the pricing for OceanBase public cloud instances has changed from the price of compute nodes to the total price of the instance (that is, the sum of the compute node price, storage price, and log disk price). Please note this adjustment.

Billing formulas
For a subscription cluster instance, the monthly price is calculated as follows:
Cluster Monthly Price = Cluster Compute Price + Cluster Storage Price. TheCluster Storage Price = (Storage Size - Initial Storage Size) × Storage Unit Price × Number of Storage Replicas.For example, if you purchase a subscription cluster instance in the China (Zhangjiakou) region with a multi-zone deployment. The cluster is a General-purpose type with 8-core, 16 GB specifications and 150 GB of storage. The
Cluster Compute Price is CNY 4,237.47. The Cluster Storage Price is(150 - 50) × 0.8 × 3 = CNY 240. The Cluster Monthly Price is4,237.47 + 240 = CNY 4,477.47.For a pay-as-you-go cluster instance, fees are deducted hourly. The formula is:
Cluster Hourly Price = Cluster Compute Price + Cluster Storage Price. The Cluster Storage Price =(Storage Size - Initial Storage Size) × Storage Unit Price × Number of Storage Replicas.For example, if you purchase a pay-as-you-go cluster instance in the China (Zhangjiakou) region with a dual-zone deployment. Cluster Compute Price is CNY 7.36. The hourly Cluster Storage Price is(150 - 50) × 0.0017 × 2 = CNY 0.34. The total hourly price is7.36 + 0.34 = CNY 7.70.

The storage classes for cluster instances include ESSD PL1 and ESSD PL0. ESSD PL0 is available only to users on the whitelist. To enable it, contact OceanBase technical support.
The storage class for tenant instances is only ESSD PL1.
The prices in the preceding tables are for a single replica. The actual storage fee is calculated using the following formula: Single-replica Price × Number of Storage Replicas × (Storage Size - Default Storage Size).
Single-zone and dual-zone deployments use the 2F1L method, which has two storage replicas. Multi-zone deployments use the 3F method, which has three storage replicas. For more information about deployment methods, see Deployment methods.
Proxy layer fee description
ApsaraDB for OceanBase provides a network proxy service between the database and your applications. The fees for the proxy layer are as follows:
Public endpoint: Free for a limited time.
Read/write endpoint: Free for a limited time.
