A dashboard displays configured data sources in the form of reports in a unified manner. A dashboard displays data, but does not generate alerts. When you configure a dashboard, you can select multiple report types according to your business needs and data source types.
Real-time Monitoring Service (RMS) supports the following report types. For more information about how to configure a report of a specific type, click the type name.
The following procedure describes how to configure a dashboard for custom monitoring.
Procedure
Log on to the RMS console. In the left-side navigation pane, click Custom Monitoring.
On the Custom Monitoring page, click Add.
On the Frequently Used tab, click Dashboard to go to the dashboard management page.
Specify a name for the dashboard. In Dashboard Layout, click Add Report to configure a report. A dashboard is composed of reports. To configure a dashboard is to configure the reports that you want to display on the dashboard. Set the following parameters for a report:
Report Name: Required. The name of the report.
Report External Link: Optional. The auxiliary URL of the report. If you set an external link for the report, the link is displayed on the right of the report name.
Width: Required. The width of the report. Each row of a dashboard is divided into 12 cells. If you set the width of a report to 12, only one report can be displayed in a row. If you set the width of a report to 6, two reports can be displayed in a row. In the sample overall business dashboard, the width of each of the two second-level reports in the first row is 6.
Height: Optional. The height of the report, in pixels. If you do not specify a value for this parameter, the system adapts the report height according to report content.
Report Type: the type of the report.
Data Source: the data source of the column values to be displayed in the report. The Data Source parameter appears after you select a report type. You can select one or more data sources for this parameter. Click Data Source. In the dialog box that appears, select the data sources that you want to add.
Value Column: Optional. The columns to be displayed in the report. You can set this parameter according to the report type that you select.
You can click Add Value Column or Intelligently Generate Value Column to add columns. For some types of data sources, columns can be automatically generated. To do so, click Intelligently Generate Value Column.
The following figure shows two sample reports. The left-side report is named Transaction Creation. The report is of the Table of Last 10 Minutes type and has five columns. The right-side report is named Transaction Creation Chart. The report is of the Trend Chart type and has three columns.
To manually add columns, click Add Value Column and specify related information in the dialog box that appears. After you configure the column, click OK to save the settings.
Level 1 Header: the unified name that is used to identify multiple columns. For example, Total is a level-1 header in the following figure.
Column Name: the name of the column. For example, Requests and Successes in the preceding figure are column names.
Value Calculation Function: the method used to generate data to be displayed in the report. Fourteen calculation methods are provided. You can directly obtain column values from a single data source or use two data sources for calculation.
Format Values: the number of decimal places that numeric values are rounded to. For example, you can specify that each numeric value is rounded to two decimal places or displayed in percentage.
Alert Function: specifies how column values are displayed in different colors in the report. The colors reflect the alert status. If a value exceeds the specified lower limit or upper limit, the value is displayed in orange or red. A value in orange indicates a warning alert, whereas a value in red indicates an error alert.
Diagnosis Link: the link to the anomaly diagnostics page. After you specify a link, a question mark icon appears on the right of the report data. You can click the icon to be redirected to the diagnostics page.
Time Range for Display: the time range of the data to be displayed, in seconds. If you do not set this parameter, the default time range is used. For example, a report of the Table of Last 10 Minutes type displays data within a time range of 10 minutes by default. If you set this parameter to 300, data of the last 5 minutes, which is 300 seconds, is displayed.
Display Time Granularity: The time interval between two consecutive data records, in seconds. If you do not set this parameter, the default interval is used.
Optional. After you configure a report, you can perform the following operations as needed:
Copy: Click Copy This Report to create a copy of the report.
Debug: Click Debug & Preview Report to debug and preview the report configurations.
Delete: Click Delete This Report to delete the report.
Add: Click Add Report to configure more reports.
After you configure all the reports that you need, click Submit to complete the configurations of the dashboard.
The following sections describe the layouts and configurations of different types of reports.
Table of last 10 minutes
In a report of this type, the left-most column displays time points, and the report displays only data of the last 10 minutes. This report type supports the Minute-level Statistics/Keyless, Minute-level Statistics/Multi-Key, and Common Service Metrics data source types. The following figure shows the layout of a sample report.
You must configure the Time column when you use this report type. The following figure shows the column configuration dialog box.
For more information about how to set the parameters on the page, see Procedure.
Trend chart
This report type supports the Minute-level Statistics/Keyless, Minute-level Statistics/Multi-Key and Common Service Metrics data source types. The following figure shows the layout of a sample report.
You can display multiple trend lines in a single report by configuring multiple columns for the report. Three columns are configured for the preceding report. Therefore, three trend lines are displayed. The following figure shows the report configuration page.
In this example, the Common Service Metrics data source type is selected. The following figure shows the corresponding column configuration dialog box.
You must specify keys in the data source if you use a data source of the Common Service Metrics type. The keys refer to the following common service metrics: Total, Successes, Success Rate, Total Average Time, and Failures.
For more information about how to set the parameters on the page, see Procedure.
Current minute multi-key vertical table and multi-minute multi-key vertical table
These two report types allow you to use a data source of the Minute-level Statistics/Multi-Key type or the Common Service Metrics type with column value grouping implemented.
Current Minute Multi-Key Vertical Table
