ApsaraDB for MyBase is a dedicated cluster database service that gives you exclusive use of physical hosts while keeping database operations fully managed. Choose MyBase over standard cloud databases when you need OS-level host access, complete resource isolation, or control over CPU and memory allocation — while still offloading installation, high availability (HA), monitoring, and backup to Alibaba Cloud.

Features at a glance

Concern Feature What it gives you
Resource control Dedicated resource isolation Physical hosts allocated solely to your account
Resource control Flexible resource allocation Balanced or compact instance distribution across hosts
Host access OS access Direct login to upload, download, and install software via custom scripts
Operations Fully managed O&M Installation, HA, monitoring, alerting, backup, and restoration
Database engine AliSQL engine Enhanced engine based on open source database engines with performance and security improvements
Cost Overcommit ratio control Higher CPU/memory overcommit for staggered workloads reduces per-instance cost
Elasticity Temporary scale-up Increase instance specs for a planned traffic spike, then scale back down

Dedicated resource isolation

MyBase allocates physical hosts exclusively to your account. No other tenants share CPU, memory, or storage on those hosts. This eliminates resource contention that causes unpredictable latency in shared environments.

OS access

ApsaraDB for MyBase allows you to upload, download, and install software by using custom scripts, meeting the needs of large and medium-sized enterprises for custom database services. You can also log in to the host directly and run operations — the same way you would on a self-managed database server. This is useful when you need to:

  • Install third-party monitoring agents or security tools required by your organization

  • Apply OS-level patches on a schedule that fits your maintenance windows

  • Configure file system settings or kernel parameters for specialized workloads

For access instructions, see Host permissions, Log on to a host by using a bastion host in Linux and Access a Windows host from a bastion host.

Enterprise-class database engine

MyBase runs on AliSQL, an enhanced and optimized engine based on open source database engines with performance and security improvements developed by Alibaba Cloud.

Fully managed operations and maintenance

Despite giving you host-level access, MyBase handles the full operations and maintenance (O&M) lifecycle, including:

  • Installation and deployment

  • High availability (HA) configuration

  • Monitoring and alerting

  • Account management

  • Automatic optimization

  • Backup and restoration

Flexible resource allocation

Control how instances are distributed across your dedicated hosts with two allocation policies:

  • Balanced allocation — spreads instances evenly across hosts to minimize single-host failure impact

  • Compact allocation — packs instances densely onto fewer hosts to leave other hosts free for burst capacity

Additional operations — secondary instance recreation, instance migration, and host replacement — let you rebalance or relocate workloads. You can also pin instances to specific hosts when needed.

Cost optimization through overcommit ratios

On dedicated hosts, you set the CPU and memory overcommit ratios to match your workload profile. If your databases have staggered peak hours, a higher overcommit ratio lets multiple instances share headroom without contention — maximizing hardware utilization and reducing per-instance cost. For configuration details, see Manage ApsaraDB for MyBase dedicated clusters.

Temporary scale-up for traffic spikes

Temporarily increase instance specifications to handle planned high-traffic events — such as seasonal promotions or batch processing jobs — without permanently upgrading your host configuration. After the event, scale back down. For details, see Upgrade the specifications of an instance for short-term use.
