Traffic spikes during events like shopping festivals can push your database instance beyond its normal capacity. Rather than permanently upgrading — and paying for resources you only need briefly — you can use Elastic Configuration to temporarily scale up CPU cores, memory, or connections for a specified period. When the deadline passes, the system automatically restores the instance to its original specifications with no service interruption.
Introduction
Elastic Configuration allows you to temporarily increase the specifications of an instance, such as its memory and CPU, to enhance overall performance. When the specified scaling end time is reached, the instance specifications automatically revert to their original state.
- A temporary scale-up does not cause service interruptions.
- A temporary scale-up takes about two minutes to take effect.
Prerequisites
You must have an ApsaraDB MyBase for MySQL instance. For more information, see Create an ApsaraDB MyBase for MySQL instance.
Procedure
-
Log on to the ApsaraDB for MyBase console.
-
In the upper-left corner of the Dedicated Clusters page, select the target region.
-
In the navigation pane on the left, click Clusters. Find the target dedicated cluster and click Details in the Actions column.
-
In the navigation pane on the left, click Instances. Find the target instance and choose in the Actions column.
-
On the Elastic Configuration page, set the following parameters:
Select a Resource Type (CPU, memory, or connections), use the slider or input box to set the target value for Set up resources, and set the Scaling End Time.
Parameter
Description
Instance Information
The instance's basic information, including:
-
Instance ID
-
CPU
-
Memory
-
Maximum Connections
Resource Type
The type of resource to scale. Options include:
-
CPU
-
Memory
-
Connections
Set up resources
The target value for the selected Resource Type.
Scaling End Time
The time when the instance automatically reverts to its original specifications.
Restore to original configuration
Select the checkbox for a resource to enable a one-click restore to its original configuration before the Scaling End Time.
NoteThis option is only for enabling manual restoration. Automatic restoration at the Scaling End Time occurs regardless.
-
-
Click OK to complete the configuration.
-
The scale-up takes about two minutes to take effect. You can then view the updated resource information by clicking the target instance ID and checking the Instance Resources section on the Basic Information page.
This section shows the current usage, quota, and expiration time for the CPU, memory, and connections resources.
