Special administration: Cost optimization
This topic describes how to use the cost optimization feature of Intelligent Advisor to identify potential cost savings for your cloud products.
Start a cost optimization check
In the menu, find Special Administration and click Cost Optimization to open the interface.
You can start a check manually. When you first access the page, no data is available. Click Start Check in the upper-left corner to start a check.
After the check starts, the system inspects the costs of specific cloud products in your account. The system also pulls the bill from the previous calendar month to calculate potential savings. The bill for the previous month is available after 12:00 on the third day of the current month.
View cost optimization check results
Summary of check results
After the check is complete, you can view statistics for Last Month's Spending, Max Estimated Monthly Savings, and Optimizable Items/Resource Count.
Last Month's Spending: The actual amount spent on all cloud products in your account during the last calendar month. Subscription fees are amortized on a monthly basis. The complete bill for the last month is available after 12:00 on the third day of the current month. For the first two days of a month, the bill for the preceding month is displayed. Note the billing cycle.
Max Estimated Monthly Savings: The total potential monthly savings for optimizable cloud products found in your account. You can view the details of optimizable products in the list below.
Optimizable Items/Resource Count: The number of check items that your cloud products hit and the number of affected resource instances.
Detailed check results
In the details list below, you can view the check result, check rule, and optimization suggestion for each check item. By default, the list is displayed in Check View. In this view, check items with the same dimension are placed in the same group, such as "Idle Resources/Billing Method/Low Resource Utilization".
You can switch to Product View to categorize check items by product.
Details of optimizable products
For check items marked as Optimizable, you can click the drop-down arrow to expand the list of affected cloud resource instances. The instance list shows relevant check metrics, such as memory usage and CPU usage for idle resource checks.
In addition to viewing the total potential savings, you can view the savings for specific items. To do this, mark the items by selecting or clearing their checkboxes (point 1 in the figure below).
You can view the total potential savings for all selected resource instances in the batch statistics for each major check category (point 2 in the figure below) and in the overall batch statistics at the bottom of the page (point 3 in the figure below).
Download the report
You can click the download button to download the cost optimization check report.
Configure check item thresholds
Go to Cost Optimization > Check Item Settings to view detailed check item rules and configure custom thresholds for them.
Click Configure Threshold to modify threshold parameters in the dialog box that appears. For example, the ECS Idle Resource Check lets you set a custom time range and percentage thresholds for memory and CPU load. Instances that fall below these thresholds within the specified time range are identified.
Click Edit to modify the check item settings in the dialog box that appears. This lets you exclude specific resources from the check.
