This topic describes the principles and benefits of ApsaraDB for MyBase Open Platform.

MyBase Open Platform clusters consist of three main components: database management, the database engine kernel, and Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) resources. You create IaaS resources, such as Elastic Compute Service (ECS) instances and Container Service for Kubernetes (ACK) clusters, in your account. You have OS management permissions for the hosts. MyBase deploys the database management service and engine on these resources and grants you access to configuration information. Compared with standard ApsaraDB services, MyBase offers greater openness and more management permissions.

Self-managed permissions

MyBase Open Platform provides a one-stop database deployment platform for users of self-managed databases. It decouples the engine kernel, database management, and IaaS resources. This lets you build database clusters in a flexible and modular way. You have self-managed permissions for the host, OS, and engine kernel.

Open resource permissions

The host resources, such as ECS instances and ACK clusters, on which MyBase is deployed are created in your account. You have management permissions for the ECS instances or ACK clusters, and root permissions for the OS.

Open engine permissions

For ease of use, MyBase integrates mainstream open source engine versions and provides open access to engine parameters. You can configure engine kernel parameters using the MyBase graphical interface or the command line.

Flexible deployment models

Supports multiple deployment modes on Elastic Compute Service (ECS) and Container Service for Kubernetes (ACK).

Deployment model

Description

MyBase on ECS

The MyBase management service and database engine are deployed and run on ECS.

You can maintain your existing practices for using self-managed databases on ECS and efficiently create and manage clusters and instances on ECS instances.

MyBase on ACK

The MyBase management service and database engine are deployed and run on ACK.

MyBase on ACK combines the database management and resource scheduling capabilities of MyBase with the benefits of containerized deployment. This lets you configure and manage MyBase clusters with greater flexibility.

MyBase instance management

The MyBase instance management feature provides more flexibility. You can manage your existing self-managed MySQL databases in the MyBase console. You also retain full permissions for your ECS instances and self-managed databases.

Modular management capabilities

MyBase Open Platform provides database management features such as lifecycle management, high availability, upgrades and downgrades, scaling, backup and recovery, and monitoring and alerting. You can select the management features that you need to build your database.

Management capability

Description

Instance lifecycle management

Using standard management features, MyBase supports the deployment of mainstream open source engines on Alibaba Cloud infrastructure, such as ECS or ACK. It provides standardized features to create, start, stop, upgrade or downgrade, and release instances.

High availability

MyBase provides mainstream high availability (HA) tools for you to choose from, such as Orchestrator and MHA. You can select the tool that best fits your scenario, business requirements, and IT capabilities.

Monitoring and alerting

MyBase supports mainstream monitoring and alerting tools, such as Prometheus and Grafana. You can maintain your existing practices and self-managed permissions for open source software. You can also connect to commercial service monitoring services with one click.

Backup and recovery

MyBase provides mainstream backup and recovery capabilities, such as Xtrabackup. You can maintain your existing practices and self-managed permissions for open source software. You can also connect to commercial backup and recovery services with one click.

Artificial intelligence for IT operations

Database instances managed in MyBase support one-click integration with Database Autonomy Service (DAS). DAS helps you eliminate the complexities of database management and service failures caused by manual operations. This ensures that your database services run in a stable, secure, and efficient manner.

Data synchronization

MyBase provides mainstream open source database synchronization tools that support full and incremental data synchronization for MySQL. It also lets you easily connect to commercial database replication services with one click for better performance and more powerful features.

Node management

The node management feature of MyBase lets you view and edit information about the nodes where the management service and engine kernel are deployed, such as node specifications, size, and quantity. It also supports operations such as upgrading or downgrading nodes and scaling.
