Problem description
You cannot send emails from Outlook, and the following error is reported:
0X80042108 This operation timed out waiting for a response from the sending (SMTP) server.Cause
This error indicates that the client failed to connect to the SMTP server for the mailbox. This issue is typically caused by an unstable connection between your local network and the server.
Solutions
1. Disable the email scanning feature of your antivirus software.
2. Disable your firewall.
3. Adjust the connection timeout in Outlook: a. In the email settings window, click More Settings.
b. In the Internet E-mail Settings window, click the Advanced tab and increase the server timeout period.
4. If the issue persists, configure the client to use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) encryption for a more stable connection. For more information about how to set up SSL, see Configure Alibaba Mail in a third-party client using SSL.
The SMTP address for the SSL protocol is
smtp.qiye.aliyun.com.The port for the SSL protocol is 465.
5. Save the settings, restart Outlook, and test the connection.
