Qidi Public Transport is a leading provider and service operator of smart public transit solutions in China. Its Beijing Public Transport app connects bus and subway systems, offering one-stop services including checking bus arrival times, QR code fare payment, and commute entertainment.

Business challenges

As China's largest and most complex urban bus system by fleet size, vehicle models, and billing complexity, the system handles 1,500 concurrent card-swipe transactions per second during rush hours. With 8 million daily riders, it generates 16 million boarding and alighting records per day.

To handle high concurrency and improve both user experience and development efficiency, Qidi Public Transport needed dynamic update and release capabilities for on-demand deployments and a restructured development workflow.

Solution

Qidi Public Transport (Beijing Public Transport edition) adopted the mPaaS miniapp container to transform multiple business modules within the app into miniapps. It also selected Location-Based Services (LBS) as the map component.

The miniapp container isolates each business module's code, enabling concurrent collaborative development and improving R&D efficiency. Its flexible client-side architecture supports dynamic module updates, enhancing the user experience.

Hengdong Logistics Dianhuo is an online freight platform built for logistics industry trends and national policies. Its apps, "Dianhuo Driver" and "Dianhuo Shipper", provide freight matching services for truck drivers and cargo owners on a nationwide platform.

Project background

The project development team was small, consisting of only two core developers and two interns, which limited their capacity for business iteration.

Development needs were urgent with scarce resources. Regulatory policy changes for online freight platforms required embedding an SDK plugin from the regulatory platform.

Solution

The developers were proficient only in Java and Vue.js and could not quickly master a new programming language or native UI component development. Given urgent business requirements, the team replaced the original Uni-App model with mPaaS miniapps, migrating app features and integrating the regulatory SDK plugin.

  • Rebuilt the app with miniapps: The Dianhuo app now automatically launches a miniapp after the splash screen, calling custom APIs to destroy the splash screen and perform Android permission verification.

  • Develop once, reuse multiple times: The web client and miniapps share the same network request framework, allowing existing web business logic to migrate to mPaaS miniapps with minimal adjustments. This avoids rewriting, ensures client consistency, and reduces implementation discrepancies across teams.

Shanghai Metro

Shanghai Shentong Metro Group Co., Ltd., reorganized and established in June 2004, manages Shanghai's rail transit investment, construction, and operations. It operates 17 lines including the Chinese mainland's first fully autonomous line (Line 10) and the world's first commercial maglev. The network spans 673 km (including 29 km of maglev line) with 395 stations, the world's largest by route length.

Project background

Shanghai Metro's average daily passenger volume has exceeded 11 million. A significant portion of these passengers comes from other parts of China, especially from the Yangtze River Delta region.

Traditional metro tickets are inconvenient, easily lost, and provide no usage feedback. Shanghai Metro needed a solution to improve passenger travel efficiency and digitize operations management.
