Cells

A cell defines the communication boundary for a service to standardize communication links, so as to lay a foundation for achieving hitless publishing (through traffic switchover), high availability (HA) architecture, failover, and failback. Cells are also the basis of implementing the cellular architecture.

  • In the active-active scenario, the application services of an application can be deployed across cells.

  • In the cellular scenario, you can create multiple application services of an application and deploy them in different cells.

Manage cells

When a workspace group is created, the system automatically plans zones and cells. You can add or delete cells before publishing application services.

  1. Log on to the SOFAStack console. In the left-side navigation pane, click Global Settings in the lower-left corner to access the workspace group page.

  2. Click the card of the workspace group whose cells are to be managed. The Workspace Group Details page appears.

  3. Click the Cell Architecture tab and add or delete cells as required.

    • Add: Click Add. In the dialog box that appears, select Cell and set the following parameters:

      • Zone: Select a zone, which can be an RZone or GZone.

      • Availability Zone : Select an availability zone (AZ). If the selected zone is an RZone, an associated AZ is automatically selected.

      • Cell Name: The zone name is automatically filled in as the prefix. We recommend that you set Cell Name in the format of zone name+letter, for example, GZ00A.

        Note

The restrictions on a cell name are as follows:

        • A cell name consists of only uppercase letters and digits, without spaces.

        • A cell name contains 1 to 10 characters

    • Delete: Click Edit. Then the architecture topology becomes editable. Click the delete icon. In the dialog box that appears, click OK.
