A zone (Availability Zone, or AZ) is a data center. A zone usually consists of multiple physical rooms. Some users start with only one data center, but SOFAStack lets you add more data centers at any time. You can build active-active data centers in the same city or data centers in other regions to expand the deployment scope of your application.

Background information

A zone is a physical area within a region that has independent power and network resources. Zones are connected through a network and provide fault isolation. Whether you place instances in the same zone depends on your requirements for disaster recovery and network latency.

You can add a data center when you create a workspace group or after the workspace group is created. For more information, see Create a workspace group.

Procedure

  1. Log on to the SOFAStack console. In the navigation pane on the left, click Global Settings in the lower-left corner to open the workspace group page.

  2. Click the card of the workspace group where you want to add a data center to open the Workspace Group Details page.

  3. Click the Cell Architecture tab.

  4. Click Add. In the dialog box that appears, select Data Center and enter the following configuration information:

    • Region: Select a region.

    • New Data Center: After you select a region, the associated data center is automatically selected.

  5. Click OK.
