Import conversation flows from XMind

Updated at:

Learn how to import conversation flows from XMind.

The XMind import feature lets you quickly build mind maps in XMind and convert them into basic question and answer (Q&A) conversation flows.

This feature uses the external XMind software. To prevent import errors, follow these instructions.

Currently, when you edit intents in XMind, only intent nodes and their child nodes are supported. The system automatically creates and names response nodes for the intent nodes.

Mapping between XMind mind maps and conversation flows

The main title of an XMind mind map maps to the conversation flow title.

Nodes and child nodes in an XMind mind map map to entry nodes and child entry nodes in the conversation flow. The following diagram shows this mapping:

Use the XMind mind map template

You can download the XMind mind map template from DS > Conversation Flow Management > XMind Import. After you download the template, you can modify its content to build your conversation flow.

In the template, you can edit the conversation flow title and each intent node. The process is as follows:

1. In DS, download the XMind template.

2. Edit the text in the template.

XMind only supports editing subjects and sub-subjects. Features such as summaries, floating topics, central topics, notes, labels, and comments are not supported.

You can directly modify, add, or change subjects or sub-subjects in the template.

3. After you finish editing the XMind file, click Export in the upper-left corner of the XMind software and export the file as an HTML file.

4. After you click Export, select HTML and click Next. On the export page, clear the checkboxes for attachments, hyperlinks, icons, and summaries.

5. After you click Export, an HTML file named after the subject is created. You can open this file in a browser. Then, go to DS > Conversation Flow Management > XMind Import, click Import XMind File, and upload the file to generate the conversation flow.
