You can create automated marketing campaigns in two ways: from scratch or from a template. This topic describes both methods and explains how to use components and the canvas.

Component types

In the new version of Automated Marketing, components manage how users enter a flow, marketing reach actions, data push actions, and flow control.

The following table describes the component types. To view the detailed description and configuration method for a component, click the component name to open the corresponding document.

Component category

Component name

Scenarios

Example

Trigger Methods

Target Audience

This component is the first one after the start node and specifies the audience group that enters the flow.

Audience Group A enters the flow and the flow is executed once a month.

Behavior Event

This component is the first one after the start node. A user enters the flow when they perform a specified behavior event.

A user enters the flow after viewing a specified H5 page twice.

Marketing Reach

Text SMS

You can send text messages through the Alibaba Cloud SMS platform or a third-party SMS platform. The message content supports inserting variables, short links, and short parameters.

Send promotional messages or notifications as text messages.

Digital Message

You can send digital messages through the Alibaba Cloud SMS platform. The message content supports text, images, audio, and video.

Send beautiful greeting cards or invitations through text messages.

Send Email

You can send emails through the Alibaba Cloud email platform.

Send promotional information or notification emails to users outside China.

WeChat Broadcast

The Marketing Automation (MA) module includes a WeChat broadcast node. It is limited to four messages per month and is suitable for pushing messages to target audiences.

Note

Do not use this for event triggers because the API call limit is 100 times per day.

Send WeChat rich media, text, image, or audio messages to followers or specified audience groups.

WeChat Message

You can send text, image, rich media, audio, or video messages, or share a Mini Program through a WeChat Official Account.

Push promotional information or notifications from a WeChat Official Account.

Template Message

You can send template messages through a WeChat Official Account. You can flexibly replace keywords in the template content.

A WeChat Official Account pushes offline event information to users in different cities. The address keyword is replaced with a different address for each city.

App Push

You can send mobile push notifications through the Umeng U-Push platform.

Push promotional information or notifications to mobile phones.

Send Coupon

You can call your coupon system to send coupons to users.

Note

You must purchase the Social Interaction feature package and integrate it with your coupon system.

You can send a 34% off coupon to users.

Shopping Guide Tasks

You can assign shopping guide tasks to the shopping guides who correspond to the target audience to guide them in user operations.

Note

You must purchase the Social Interaction feature package and the Intelligent Shopping Guide feature package. Users must also be attached to shopping guides through a Traffic Acquisition Code.

Assign a shopping guide task of the 'Broadcast Task' type to a shopping guide. This guides the shopping guide to send a specified message to the target audience.

Tagging

You can add specified tags to users who enter the component.

Note

To use the Tagging component, you must first purchase a Tablestore instance and enable the feature. For more information, contact your Alibaba Cloud sales manager.

Add the "Membership Level-VIP" tag to a user.

Generate Audience Group

You can save the users who enter the component as an audience group.

  • When connected after an Event Judgment component, you can save users who have or have not performed a specified behavior event as an audience group.

  • When connected after a Result Judgment component, you can filter users based on the sending results or receipts of the previous Marketing Reach or Data Push component and save them as an audience group.

Flow Control

Wait Until

You can wait until a specified time or wait for a period of time.

Wait until the next 12:00, wait until 18:00 after 7 days, or wait for 1 hour.

A/B Test

You can compare the effectiveness of different plans through testing.

Randomly divide the same audience group into two groups of 50% each. Send different promotional text messages to the two groups to test which message results in higher sales.

Random Grouping

You can randomly split users who enter the component into multiple groups based on specified ratios. You can then perform different subsequent operations for different groups.

Randomly select 20%, 30%, and 50% of the audience group to send different coupons.

End

This component indicates that no other components will be connected afterward.

None.

Judgment Conditions

Tag Judgment

You can filter users who meet the requirements based on tags and perform subsequent operations. You can also filter users into multiple groups based on different tag requirements at the same time.

Note

When the first component is a Behavior Event component, you must first purchase a Tablestore instance and enable the feature to use the Tag Judgment component. For more information, contact your Alibaba Cloud sales manager.

From the audience group that enters the component, filter users whose gender is female and whose address is in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, or Shenzhen into the first group. Then, filter users whose gender is male and whose address is in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, or Shenzhen into the second group.

Event Judgment

You can filter users who have or have not performed a specified behavior event within a specified time and then perform subsequent operations.

From the audience group that enters the component, if a user has not registered for the app within one day, send a text message to that user.

Property Judgment

You can connect this component after a Behavior Event component. You can filter users based on the properties of the event selected in the Behavior Event component and perform subsequent operations. You can also filter users into multiple groups based on different property requirements at the same time.

For users who enter the flow because they followed an official account, you can perform different subsequent operations based on the channel from which they followed.

Result Judgment

You can filter users based on the sending results or receipts of the previous Marketing Reach or Data Push component and perform subsequent operations. You can also filter users into multiple groups based on different result requirements at the same time.

One hour after sending a WeChat message, you can send a text message to users for whom the sending failed. You can continue to send WeChat messages to users for whom the sending was successful.

Audience Judgment

In a marketing campaign, multiple target audiences may correspond to various campaign strategies, and there may be overlapping users between these audiences. In this case, you can use the Audience Judgment component to determine the strategies and priorities for different audiences to ensure that the same user is not contacted repeatedly.

Execute different campaign strategies for Audience Group A and Audience Group B. For overlapping users between the two groups, execute the strategy for Audience Group A.

Data Push

Webhook

You can use a webhook to connect to your first-party or third-party systems, such as a CRM, and instruct them to send messages.

Your CRM sends coupons to the user list provided by Quick Audience.

Push to Kafka

You can push user IDs to Alibaba Cloud Kafka or open source Kafka.

None.

Create an automated marketing campaign from scratch

Procedure:

  1. Go to Workspace > Automated Marketing to open the campaign list.image

  2. In the upper-right corner, click New Marketing Campaign > Create from Scratch.

  3. In the dialog box that appears, enter a campaign name, select associated sub-campaigns, a start and end time, and a group. Then, click OK.

    image

    • You can associate sub-campaigns from other marketing campaigns. In the drop-down list, click a main campaign on the left. The sub-campaigns under it are listed on the right. Standalone sub-campaigns are displayed under - at the end of the main campaign list. Select the check boxes of the sub-campaigns to associate them. If you select the check box of a main campaign, all its sub-campaigns are associated.image

    • If you do not set a start and end time, the campaign starts immediately after it is published.

  4. On the canvas page, configure the campaign flow. For more information about the configuration, see the Canvas layout and Canvas operations sections. The following figure shows an example that uses WeChat Broadcast:

    image

  5. To modify the campaign name, associated sub-campaigns, or start and end time, you can click the xg icon in the upper-left corner and make changes in the dialog box.

  6. If you want to save the flow configuration without executing it, you can click Save as Draft. The campaign is saved, and you are returned to the campaign list, where the campaign status is Draft. You can click Edit in the list to continue the configuration later.

If you click the w icon in the upper-left corner to return to the campaign list, your configurations are not saved.

  7. After you configure the flow, click Publish to save the current configuration. If the campaign has no start and end time, or if the start time has been reached, the campaign starts immediately. Otherwise, the campaign waits until the specified start time.

    Note
    • To ensure performance under the current cloud resource configuration, if 100 campaigns are already running in the same workspace, an error is reported when you try to publish a new campaign. You must wait for a running campaign to end or manually stop one before you can publish a new campaign.

    • A single canvas task supports a maximum of 20 tag configurations. An on-premises deployment or a self-purchased independent analysis source environment in a Software as a Service (SaaS) environment can support up to 200 tags.

For more information about campaign statuses and management operations, see Manage Automated Marketing Campaigns.

Create an automated marketing campaign from a template

We provide policy templates for several common marketing scenarios. These templates offer recommended overall flows and configurations for some components, such as the Target Audience and Marketing Reach components. This helps you quickly create the automated marketing campaigns that you need.

For more information about campaign template types, see What campaign templates does Quick Audience provide?

Procedure:

  1. Go to Workspace > Automated Marketing to open the campaign list.image

  2. In the upper-right corner, click New Marketing Campaign > Create from Template.

  3. In the dialog box that appears, select a policy template and click Use.

  4. In the dialog box that appears, enter a campaign name, select associated sub-campaigns, a start and end time, and a group. Then, click OK.

If you do not set a start and end time, the campaign starts immediately after it is published.image

  5. The canvas page appears. The canvas is pre-populated with the flow that is defined by the policy template. The following figure shows an example that uses the 'Guide first-time buyers to repurchase' policy template.26

  6. A dialog box in the lower-right corner shows the template details and lists the key flow components that need to be configured. Click a flow component. A prompt appears above the component. You can configure the component based on the prompt.

    Note
    • You can also configure components based on your business needs.

    • You can click the 15 icon in the upper-right corner of the template details window to collapse it. After it is collapsed, you can click the 21 icon in the same location to expand it again.

    • If you click Do not show again in the lower-right corner of the template details window, the template details are hidden and cannot be displayed again.

    • The prompt for the Target Audience component is shown in the following figure.5475

      1. Click View Rules in the prompt. A dialog box appears and shows the system-recommended filtering rules for the target audience, as shown in the following figure.235

      2. Click Create Audience Group. You are redirected to the audience group filtering page. The page is automatically configured with the system-recommended filtering rules, as shown in the following figure. You can adjust the rules as needed, enter an audience group name and other information, and complete the audience group filtering. For instructions on how to filter audience groups, see the Audience Group Filtering document.

        Note

The page is automatically configured with filtering rules only if the required data table schemas, models, and other items are already configured.

        image

      3. After the audience group is successfully generated, you can select it for the Target Audience component.

    • The prompt for Marketing Reach components is shown in the following figure.48

      2. Click Create Template. You are redirected to the Create SMS Template page. You can create an SMS template as needed and paste the copied message content. For instructions on how to create SMS templates, see Create Text SMS Template.

      3. After you create the SMS template and it is approved, you can select it for the Text SMS component.

  7. You can configure other components or adjust the flow as needed to complete the entire flow configuration. Ensure that all components are connected by solid lines, not dashed lines.

The subsequent steps are the same as when you create a campaign from scratch. For more information, see steps 4 to 7 in Create an automated marketing campaign from scratch.

The canvas layout is shown in the figure above:

  • The component list is on the left.

  • The global buttons are in the upper-right corner.14

    From left to right:

    • Add End Component: Adds an End component to each path. Before you publish, the end of each path must be an End component.

Canvas operations

Add a component

  • If no components have been added to the flow, you must first add a component that defines the conditions for users to enter the flow in the position shown in the following figure.346

  • After a component that defines the entry conditions has been added, you can add components to the end of the path or insert components between two existing components, as shown in the following figure.15

To add a component:

  1. There are three ways to add a component:

  • Move the mouse over the plus sign (+) icon. A list of available components appears. You can then click the component that you want to add.23521

  • Drag a component from the component list on the left of the canvas to a plus sign (+) icon to add it to the flow.2354

  • Insert a component between two components:

Hover the mouse over the connection line. A plus sign (+) icon and a list of available components appear. Click the component you want to add.35

  1. Configure the component.

After you add a component or click an existing one, a panel appears on the right. You can configure the component in this panel. For the specific configuration methods for each component, see the documents for the corresponding components, such as Target Audience.

A component that has been added but not configured has a red dot in its upper-right corner, and the connection line to the preceding component is a dashed line, as shown in the following figure.

image

Once a component is configured, a red dot appears in its upper-right corner and the line connecting it to the preceding component becomes a solid line, as shown in the figure below.

246

Add a connection line

You can manually add connection lines in two scenarios:

  • A component needs more than one subsequent path.

For example, in the following figure, text messages and WeChat messages are sent to the same audience group simultaneously.26

  • A component needs to reuse a subsequent path that is already configured for another component.

For example, in the following figure, after you send text messages and WeChat messages to different audience groups, subsequent operations are performed based on the receipt results for both.24637

To add a connection line:

  • Add a subsequent path (not applicable to the last component in a path):

Move the mouse over the point on the right edge of a component. A plus sign (+) icon appears. You can click the icon to extend a connection line. Alternatively, you can press and hold the plus sign (+) icon and drag it outward to draw a connection line. Then, release the mouse in an empty area.23

  • Connect to another path:

Move the mouse over the empty connection line on the right side of a component. The line is highlighted. Press and hold the dot on the right side of the line and drag it to the path that you want to connect to. When you connect to the path, that path is also highlighted. Then, release the mouse.

    214

Copy and paste a component

You can copy and paste a single component, or copy and paste a component and its subsequent path.

  • Copy and paste a single component:

You can copy and paste a single component into a path or at the end of a path.

Move the mouse over a component. Three icons appear. Click the first icon, Copy. The component is now in a copied state. Move the mouse to a position where a component can be added. A Click to paste prompt appears. Click to paste the component.

    1255

After copying, you can press the Esc key to exit the copy state.

The new component has the same configuration as the original component. You can modify the configuration.

  • Copy and paste a component and its subsequent path:

You can copy and paste a component and its subsequent path to the end of a path.

Move the mouse over a component. Three icons appear. Click the second icon, Copy component and subsequent path. The component and path are now in a copied state. Move the mouse to a position where a component can be added. A Click to paste prompt appears. Click to paste.

    1

After copying, you can press the Esc key to exit the copy state.

The new components have the same configuration as the original components. You can modify the configuration.

Delete a component

Currently, you can only delete a component and all components in its subsequent path. You cannot delete a single component.

  • Delete a component and its subsequent path:

Move the mouse over a component. Three icons appear. Click the third icon, Delete component and subsequent path. In the dialog box that appears, confirm the deletion.235

  • Cut the connection line before a component and delete the subsequent path:

Move the mouse over the connection line before a component. A scissors icon appears. Click the scissors icon. In the dialog box that appears, confirm the deletion.
